If I'm not mistaken, this is at least a 7th 'aftershock' since the original, in about a 6 hour time span, right on top of itself, all 4.9 or greater...

Magnitude 5.1 KODIAK ISLAND REGION, ALASKA

Also to interject, isn't there a post somewhere recently noting a web-bot prediction... something about not knowing the aftershocks from the original... something to that effect... I'll link if I locate.

Highly Speculative Web-Bot Run: The Chilean Volcano, The USA Earthquakes and The Bush Wedding
In addition, the [flooding] aspect/attribute set applies to the [earthquake] in that it appears as a [flood of earthquakes] rather than merely a single event. The data suggests so many [tremors] that it will be [academic] as to which to pick for the [earthquake] and which to pick as [aftershocks].

So that 'account' is a bit more harsh than what we are currently finding out, but this is simply terrible, none the less... certainly my good thoughts are out to all these people. (So, the rest of you better watch out... only bad ones left now )

Xinhua is now reporting 7,651 confirmed deaths, but rescue workers haven't been able to reach the hardest hit area.

Major earthquake in southwest China's Sichuan Province has killed 7,651 people by 10 p.m. Monday in Sichuan alone, said the ad hoc headquarters for disaster relief headed by Premier Wen Jiabao in Sichuan.

The casualty calculation is still going on, the headquarters said.

By press time, disaster relief teams are obstructed in the city of Dujiangyan, less than 100 kilometers away from Wenchuan, as the only roads linking Wenchuan, the epicenter, and provincial capital Chengdu were damaged during the earthquake, according to Li Qianghua, director with the China Earthquake Networks Center.

I checked on the weather prediction for the region and it doesn't look too bad for exposed people.

If they can get some shelter during the night for warmth and the rain holds off, it will go a long way to help them concentrate on finding survivors instead of just surviving.

I'm sure the Chinese government will do everything they possibly can to help these people when you consider the scrutiny they're under right now. They'll want to show the world that they are going to extraordinary measures to rescue every person they can.
This political and public spotlight on China can only help in the rescue effort and the resources the government and military will throw at this disaster.

The official news agency of China is here:
It's the English version.

I'll also urge everyone to contact their local Red Cross and throw a couple bucks into the Disaster Relief Fund. With all they're dealing with right now I'm sure they would appreciate anything you can give them.

Yeah, what else can we do?? LOL , anyways, the web sites are getting slower on the response time lately... 2-5 weeks ago, they were updating within 5 minutes of the quakes, even the .5's, but in the last week, it can take hours to get any update.... the quakes are slowing, but not stopping, and now, JUST like before the 3.8, the swarm slows down, media forgets about them, and then .......
So I guess we will have to wait to see what is in store next, but neither I nor a few other locals here think this is over...Still increased static electrcity, etc... my gut is still in "ready-go-" disaster mode, even though I have actually had a few nights of decent sleep for once.....
