There has to be a good reason it is getting quiet (the updates and news), since the quakes have slowed down, but not stopped, and the last time we went through a slow down, we had a 3.8, I dont think we even get 1 minute a day anymore on ANY TV or News medium here.

The new geothermal plant is up and running, so obviously there has been an increase in steam, or i would think they wouldv'e built this facility years ago, when nevada had money to spend... now we are in a deficit, and the plant becomes operational... (alleviating steam pressure?)

Its a bit slow right now because they are still working on it, but im sure you will enjoy none the less.

Prediction,............there wil be a major quake somewhere on a line from exteme southwest arkansas along an arc through austin and san antonio texas down to laredo. This is an ancient fault line that has seen little action in recent geological time. It is a line called the edwards plateau............

There was a 3.? near the line last month, a very unusual location just south of san antonio..........

I don't know what you are hearing in your part of the world but here in Australia they are not saying much about the quakes at all

It's all about the govs new buget

It looks like you are on the quake site 24/7
keep up the good work

That's because he decided to take over my thread. And he doesn't seem to ever sleep.
And I half suspect he's got the plugin to Firefox that alerts you whenever there's an earthquake. I know I have it, but only set to magnitude 6 ones, rather than 5. And now I've told you all where to get it, I highly doubt I'll catch you all off guard, assuming you have FF open at the time.

And no offence to people but this is the quake watch thread, not the quake prediction thread. If you want a prediction one, make a new one and watch your points go up.

To clear up any myths... I do sleep and I do not have the plug-in
It's just alot of free time on my hands, whether at home or 'work'
But, with all the money going to mortgage and food, it doesn't leave much to spend during that free time, so I am often on this damn 'time-sucker' for my entertainment
Seems a couple others are trying to nudge me out lately anyway

And speaking of predictions... I knew something didn't look 'right' on the map and I questioned it here and the 7.9 hit within 30 hours after I made that post. Ok... maybe not exactly a 'prediction' but I'm not taking my eye off the other area I circled just yet

Quake numbers.............

For one of you smart types out there.

I have noticed the quantity of quakes is in a cycle from approx 220 up to over 330 in what appears to be a pattern, perhaps waveform. Can anyone track backwards the daily number of quakes on the world USGS map up thru today. It would be interesting to see if the time between peaks is getting shorter.

OK, helio...

4-18-08 330 Quakes over 7 days 14:00 UTC
4-19 336 03:22
4-23 347 01:37
4-24 240 (yes, 240) 01:19 (this may have been after the swarms in Alaska and off Oregon coast were dumped from the 7 day map)
4-30 250 12:35
5-2 291 14:09
5-6 312 17:38
5-7 339 18:00
5-10 288 02:14

To interject here, I questioned a slight anomaly in this post and I circled the Asia area (plus more and another circle on some smaller activity on the other side) simply questioning all the activity in general... moreso, the larger activity... in the 4's and 5's opposed to the swarms that were going on for U.S and the ones in Ill, etc... then the 7.9 hit about 52 hours later. Not saying I predicted it, but it just didn't look right. Then...

5-15 277 quakes 16:23 UTC

That's all I can give ya'... ok... a little more...

4-18 to 4-23 ran high around low to mid 300's
4-24 thru 4-30 slightly above norm, I guess @ mid to high 200's
5-1 thru 5-7 up high again @ low to mid 300's
5-10 thru current slightly above norm, plus the 7.9, dropping about 11 total quakes off the map over that 5 days @ mid to high 200's

So to pop back in... if this pattern holds... the short span that it is, look to get back to 340 or so by 5/21(?) Just a stab.

Oooops! Sorry apex!! Maybe I should go ahead and open that Quake Prediction thread you noted

I find the 3.3 in Parkfield, CA very interesting. I have been watching that area closely because of the predictions previously by the USGS that finally occurred in 2004.....way off their target time.

I have had an uneasy feeling about that area and believe a big one(close to an 8 or higher) is going to hit there before the end of June, quite possibly before the end of May.

No....I am no scientist, nor do I have any "abilities" to see future events, nor do I speak with god, but I do have weird feelings every now and then and when I began reading about the area and the research and drilling there I had a very uneasy, almost light headed moment.

Just my .02 Really nothing to read, but wanted to post my thoughts anyways.

That isn't really the best way to do it. If you put in the link and the magnitude location and time/date and then a link it's easier to read, and besides we don't need all of the information.

Like this:

Magnitude 5.5 - EASTERN SICHUAN, CHINA
2008 May 16 05:25:48 UTC
Depth 10km

Heh, event id "us2008scam"

Or whatever information you want to link in it, just copy pasting all of it with no link isn't the best method. And strictly speaking, the way you did it needs the [ex][/ex]. And links are always helpful.

Great the point here is are the peaks (330+) gettting closer together? The does seem to be a waveform in the quakes. Peaks and valleys..........

It would be interesting to see if the time between the peaks is getting shorter...............like "birth pains"...........

I have been watching and reading this thread for a while now, right along with the USGS earthquake page. I myself live in Western Kentucky, on top of the New Madrid fault. I have had a terrible gut feeling for a while now that something big was brewing, be it here or elsewhere within the US. The funny thing is, a lot of people that I have spoken with have that same feeling and as I have been reading I see that it seems to be people from all over are experiencing it too. Not to ire anyone, but I personally find comfort in praying for the safety of each of us is these uncertain times! Its scary when you see the destruction in our countries and think that we could be next. Of course the soil type is such here that we would experience what is called liquefaction, if you are unfamiliar with the term, look it up, its very interesting! Hang in there people and remember we are all in this together!
