There are no mandatory meetings beyond, obviously, your own degrees. While masons are encouraged to attend as many meetings as possible, they are also told that ALL other work, family, and religious obligations have priority over masonry. I had to miss a few MONTHS due to being at the end of writing a thesis, and everyone was perfectly OK with that. Some people miss half a year or a year...some other people get their 3rd degree and never come back. I think its safe to say every lodge would love your attendance, but it won't matter if you can't make it due to other obligations.

To quote a bit of Masonic ritual for you....

"Though your frequent appearance at our regular meetings is earnestly solicited, yet it is not meant that Masonry should interfere with your necessary vocations."

In English, come when you can.

what about Women ?

is it only for men ?

There have been cases in the past where women were allowed. I heard one such story from a local Mason, but don't have the particulars. Only that she was nosey and as a result of being nosey (she got caught), they decided to let her in. I think it occurred back in the late 1800s... but not sure.

There are female counterpart organizations.

For the Blue Lodge, there is Eastern Star. And there can't be an Eastern Star chapter unless men are involved. Although many meetings are run without the men there if they were ill or taken away due to work.

There is another one for the York Rite, but for the life of me I can't remember its name. I was initiated into that group but never attended because I felt it was kinda strange. Plus the membership was all old bags and I was only 20 at the time. I stuck with Eastern Star for about 3 years and then quit because I was bored out of my mind. I can tell anyone about Eastern Star if they are interested.

The counterpart to the Shriners is the Daughters of the Nile. They claim to make homemade dolls/toys (at least the chapter in my hometown did) to be given to the children in the burn hospitals. Those ladies like to dress up in belly dancing type costumes.

In the old days, women couldn't be involved in the female counterpart organizations unless they had a close male relative or spouse involved in the Lodge. Now, due to lack of membership, they've opened this up somewhat to include step-daughters, granddaughters, etc. It used to be only wife, mother, sister, daughter, and widow.

For more information and study, do a web search on "Women in Masons."

The Aldsworth case. Supposedly, she was caught eavesdropping in on a Lodge meeting. After being caught, she was then required to take an aoth of secrecy. The story is probably apocryphal.

Probably the Social Order of the Beausant, which is the ladies auxiliary to a Commandery of Knights Templar.

Then I hope they were better looking than the "old bags" you talked about before!

Those hospitals still amaze me to this date. Anyone who thinks negatively of the Free Masons should honestly go visit one of our hospitals.

Myself being a mason and a christian, i read in great depth before becoming one. I am a college educated, church going, husband and father and if you ask my wife who is not a star "female equiv of a mason" and knows nothing about the art or arts of masonry, she will tell you that since becoming a mason it has made me more subdued and a better husband, father, and community member. The upper elite of the masonic order are no more "evil" than the upper elite of any other orginization. I know several people who majored in theology who would make the same claims against the vatican. And millions of americans make the same claim against the government and oil companies. I think that people inherintly fear that which they do not understand and lash out against it. there are secret handshakes and words in the order that I would not divulge, not for fear of being a bad mason, but just simply because where would the fun be in a secret society if we gave away all the secrets. the secrecy part of any secret orginization like the greeks on any number of colleges is simply a recruiting tool to get members. people join the masons becuse it is exciting to be "in the know" and feel like you know something everyone else doesnt. remember when you were a kid and had a secret! those were the best moments of your life. even as adults when we hear a secret at work how quickly and gleefuly we scatter about showing off the secret that we know. People if you want to know what being a mason is all about, or you want to bash them publicly, try joining to get the real story. Because people who are not members of a club arguing with members of that club and claiming to know more about it than active participants just seems silly. that would be like me, an englism major walking into a math class and arguing with the professor about a math theory!

Morality is oft used by hypocrites to acuse innocent people or the afflicted and essentialy uses morality to justify ruining peoples lives, such as addicts of anything within a spectrum of harming the self but no one else..

We as an orgaization world wide giva away millions of dollars away a day, give scholarships to local teens, have hospitals for children, and help out the community.

Nice, unfortunately that is merely a disguise to hide the secret knowledge kept from the public, knowledge of space travel, alien contact and 9-11 and armegeddon, time travel.

Now before you blast the 33 degree Masons and say that they are the "inner circle", I must say not being a member of the Scottish Rite I have no "proof", but I so know several 33 degree Masons and they do not seem evil. Most that I have met are not even powerful men with in the community. Farmers and normal people, humble and respectable.

i think most know that most masons are in it for social networking like church goers who ignore the religion to meet people and make money, but what about the power hungrypsychos who use freemasonic order to advance and gain absolute power, using occult techniques such as spells and alchemic manipulations. It does happen or otherwise it wouldnt be an issue.

The checkerboard represent the good (white) and evil(black) aspect of the order, and Albert Pike in his memoirs mentions its a deception of lucifarian/socialist origination. Its a visual representation of an illusion. And the imagery is a mockery because if you dont know what it does or means, you will live in ignorant bliss and never know the secrets.

I am not a mason. but respect humans who do good in any function.

Im a former church goer, now a long time enjoyer of the natural earths conveyances to our minds through a willy nelson style life.

Christ to me is a plant. And the stars are the characters and actions of characters in the bible. The universe is a pen for our great story writer..we agree there.

The church's kindness's are annoying and like southpark states, holds society back in a false paradigm of false advancement and edification of your feelings, rather than hurting them like christ did originaly in metaphore.

What happens when the majority are part of this monolithic ignorance, and the knowing become a minority, because the prince of the earth, lucifer has used his knowledge to hold us down, and only show us what he/she/it wants us to see so we remain suckers. I am not a sucker. Please dont be one. great your life is good, your happy, but your still tricked.

I am not sure I am following you here. Are you saying that Masons donate time and resources to charity to distract the populace from the fact that we are in contact with aliens while silmutaneously repressing information regarding the September 11th terrorist attacks, time travel and the end of of the world?
