Excellent post.

Do you have a link to where that translation came from?

On another note, what I find strange everytime a new Osama tape comes out, is the general disregard and nonchalance the Media uses when giving us 'visuals' to go along with the texts.

On many of the websites I have looked at in regard to the new tape, I have seen them use stills from the new video, stills from another video where he appears to be wearing the same outfit, same backdrop, different beard, images of him outside in a camo coat among many others. And the only mention that it is not the most current photo, is at the bottom some tiny little 'AP Stock" or something of the effect.

I understand that he is in "hiding", so not many new photos, but there are too many times where old and new are intermingled, that it gets hard to know what is what.

Has anyone else noticed this happening, especially with the new video?

I've had that thread stuck in the back of my mind this whole time. Have no idea if it actually means anything or not.

On another note, can anyone explain who this "Joshua" is that he is talking about?

Corporal Joshua Lake

A Violent, 'Normal' Day in Baghdad July 16, 2007

ABC Features 'Great Candor' from 'Bitter' Soldiers in Iraq

The article was a derogatory look at the Iraq war, a "hit" piece if you will. Some video was included in the article.

During these July interviews the two soldiers, Corporal Joshua Lake and Specialist Michael Vassell, had harsh words for Washington.

"Because we have people up there in Congress with the brain of a 2-year-old who don't know what they're doing. They don't experience it," Vassell had said. "I, I challenge the President or whoever has us here for 15 months to ride along, alongside me. I'll do another 15 months if he comes out here and rides along with me every day for 15 months. I'll do 15 more months. No, I - they don't even have to pay me extra."

So in three years this man has not changed his clothes, and is still videoing in front of the same damned wall, and got so bored waiting for us to find him he decided to go Grecian?

...

The only thing different between those two pictures is the color has been adjusted to a greener hue on the newer one and he has a black beard.

I'm a little confused by something...

I did a quick search on whether Muslims had a prohibition on dying one's hair. I immediately found this 2005 source on the issue:

Question:

Assalamu Alaikkum

I want to know if highlighting of hair is allowed in islam.I know that dying white hair to black is prohibited. Can I highlight my black hair?
If dye is used, is abulution completed/accepted?

...

Answer
Asalamu aleykum

It is allowed for a woman (or a man) to change the hair color, although it should not be colored black. Please read the fatawa below.

...

If the hair is dyed black, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) forbade that when he commanded a man to change his white hair, but to avoid black. He said: “Change this white hair but avoid black.” (See Saheeh Muslim, 5476). A stern warning has also been narrated to the one who does that, namely the hadeeth of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him): “There will be people at the end of time who will dye their hair black like the crops of birds; they will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4212; al-Nasaa'i, 8/138; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Jaami', 8153). This indicates that it is forbidden to change the hair with black dye. With regard to changing it with different colours of dye, the basic principle is that it is permissible, unless it is done in the manner of kaafir women or immoral women, in which case it is forbidden for that reason, because the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.” (Narrated by Abu Dawood, 4031; classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Irwa' al-Ghaleel, 5/109).

Source.

Am I missing something here?

I'll look for more sources on this issue...

Here read this...

Question:
Is it permissible to mix red henna with black katam and put it on the grey hair of the beard, noting that after that the colour of the beard will be black from a distance, and from close up it will be clear that the colour is dark brown?.

Answer:
Praise be to Allaah.

Shaykh Muhammad ibn ‘Uthaymeen (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

The Sunnah is to change the grey hairs by using henna, or henna and katam. If it is changed using henna it will be orange and if it is changed using henna and katam it will be between red and black. There is nothing wrong with that and no sin involved, in sha Allah.

Makeitso also pointed out the issue of henna to me in a U2U. Frankly, the quality of the photo makes it impossible to tell the true color.

I still find it interesting, nonetheless, that he colored his beard at all.

Don't you?

I always have a tendency to look for what is being 'sold', so I don't necessarily disagree with your view. But I still think it is damn interesting that he did that.

On another matter, there is something that really bugs me about his speech too. I can't quite place my finger on it, but there is something...

I think I need to re-read this thing.

Or he is already dead, and this is Osama III, aka body double number 2.

Edit to add, I have thought he was dead since Tora Bora. Still do. I have not seen one piece of real evidence that he is still alive.
