Associated Press - March 11, 2004
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Lightweight boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. missed a court date on a charge of hitting the mother of three of his children, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

The warrant was issued Tuesday after Mayweather failed to appear for an arraignment on a domestic violence charge. Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Nancy Oesterle rescheduled the arraignment for Friday.

``If we find him, we will arrest him based on the warrant,'' Las Vegas police Sgt. Chuck Pierce said.

Mayweather's lawyer, Richard Wright, said he was not aware of Tuesday's court date, and said he will ask the judge Friday to quash the warrant.

Lee Samuels, a spokesman for Mayweather's promoter, Top Rank Inc., said Thursday he was not aware of the criminal cases against Mayweather and could not comment.

Pierce said Mayweather is accused of hitting the woman Dec. 27 at a Las Vegas nightclub.

Mayweather's next fight is scheduled for May 22 against an undetermined opponent.

He was charged. But the arrest warrant out for him for missing a court date was dropped. But he has been charged with a felony.

If he gets convicted on a felony then yes he will face some jail time.

That could ruin his career if that happens.

Bad news for him,but he shouldn't hit a woman.

It would suck for Mayweather to go to jail. He's undefeated and pound for pound on of the best in the World.

Yep it would certainly mess up his career, but if he is guilty then so be it.

Incidents like this will allways happen, lets just hope that if he does go down he can bounce back from it and continue where he left off.

Well it all depends on how long he get's put inside for (thats if he does)..I don't know what sort of sentance it carries over there in the States but it could finish him if it is for a long while..
