I agree, but unless he's homeless why wouldn't he just do it at home? Even if he was homeless i'm sure he could find a bathroom somewhere and do it. Seeing as how he was caught in a "nature path", i'm guessing that people walk through that path, so it would be some form of public, I think. As for inserting an awl into his rectum...!!??!! That just seems way overboard, thats just too much to be doing outside. I think he needs some mental help. I really don't think any firefighters were needed, and neither were the drawing of weapons. If you were caught masturbating in a patch of woods with an awl up your butt would you expect a cop to draw his gun on you? I wouldn't, i'd probably crap the thing right out! In past experiences, i've come to know that when you have any weapons or sharp objects on you, it's the police officers job to search you and remove any of these items. I would not want to be that cop in that situation, but at the same time..it's his job.

I am of the opinion that this thread really doesn't belong in Social Issue, because it really is about one eccentric character doing things that are usually of a private nature.

However, insofar as the thread was put here, let's see if we can raise the tone of the discussion, just a little.

There are many tacks we can take here, from to what extent are some people willing to go to make sure they stay in prison where they can live the only life they know and are comfortable with, to how the mentally ill are short-changed in this country in no small measure, because the ACLU would rather see the mentally ill living on the street, unmedicated, than to see them living productive lives on medication, even if the medication is court ordered, to the lifestyles and issues of "tolerance" in certain parts of the country that set the stage for behavior such as this to be so common as to not raise an eyebrow of those who live in these areas or are aware of them.

I am of the opinion that this thread really doesn't belong in Social Issue

Actually I had originally put it in ATS Web Site Related Material. Masqua moved this thread to Social Issues on PTS for me. I'm not sure if I agree though, I can see how it does reflect upon social issues.

Every subject has a social component and it is that emphasis that I like to see here on Social Issues.

As you didn't intend for the thread to be here, that is not your fault, but since it is here, there are a lot of things we can do with the thread, now that the jokes have, with any luck, been exhausted.

As I noted above, the incident lends itself to a number of issues that are both socially and politically pertinent.

I find it kind of funny that every species on this planet exists today because we all have a massive desire to have sex, and yet humans put so many restrictions on how we can get our fix.

A simple Google search of the term "porn" will prove the interest humans have in watching what others do. Hell, the internet would not be what it is today without the money that was poured into it by the porn industry.

I'm not sure where we need to draw the line, but I'd rather see a man masturbating in the park than see two men trying to kill each other over some disagreement they have. And when I see parents fighting in front of their children, arguing and hitting each other, what kind of example is that setting for the next generation ?

It's become just fine to let our kids watch people being murdered and mutilated on TV and in movies. Then we give them video games that let them act out murder, death, and mayhem in the privacy of their own rooms. But God forbid they see something as natural as sex.

Sure, we can have a chuckle over this guy because it's a bit inordinate and made it into the news, but nobody was harmed by this mans actions and the human body is nothing to be ashamed of.

Granted, you can't have people wanking outside a schoolyard fence, but spotting someone in a compromising situation out in the forest should really be a non-issue.
Let's face it, it's his rectum, he can do what he wants with it, and being on a "nature path" would give him a reasonable sense of privacy.

Without any further information than the story posted, or something that would incriminate this guy for something other than having a wank with an anal probe, I'd have to say we should live and let live.

As iori_komei said, you might need to explain something like that to a child on a first encounter, but I sure wouldn't feel uncomfortable about a situation like that if I was walking in the woods with my elderly parents, any member of my family, or any of my friends.

I don't know what your home life was like, but nudity was never an issue while I was growing up, and sex was an open topic for discussion. We knew our parents were having a good time in bed, and sex was explained to all us kids at an early age without any sort of perverted abuse.
We were never chastised if we got caught masturbating, if anything, whoever caught you was apologetic for invading your privacy.
