Hi. I had been hoping to hear a reaction to the Hows about some music? thread from a member of the admin team. Just wondering whether they saw the discussion & whether they thought it has any merit?

I might as well mention a couple of other thoughts:

Why do photos appear on the left, as opposed to centred (-as was once the case)? The old way just seemed neater / easier on the eye.

It also seems really unfortunate that hyperlinks were changed to white. On many occasions I have seen replies that made it obvious that they didn't realise what they had just read contained a hyperlink, as it just looks like bold text; (—sometimes respondents have actually asked for the info already linked to immediately above!) Blue was surely more effective.

Finally, I used to have a silver border around my posts. After being away from the board for a while & coming back earlier this year I found it had gone...

I don't think it would work as well as you expect. What would happen if someone had the mouse just above the first avatar and scrolled the page down, making the mouse pointer hover over all avatars?

What photos, photos in posts? You can post them (almost) centred.

They are green, not white. They only turn white (and underlined) when the mouse is over the link.

Thanks for the response.

I have to say I've never done that in my life, as I navigate exclusively using the mouse. I dare say there may be some people who use the arrow keys to navigate, and that they might occasionally leave the mouse right over an avatar. I suppose it would just be a question of whether the pleasure of hearing avatar theme tunes outweighs the inconvenience of those people getting into the habit of not leaving the mouse arrow over an avatar. (I suppose if there were the possibility of the feature causing annoyance to some, you could have a Music Off button somewhere on the page. You'd probably want that anyway to provide some control over how long music played.)

How?

Wow - that's so subtle I never saw it. There's no doubt it is mistaken for bold often enough to cause problems. Could the 'green' at least be turned up a few shades, perhaps?

How?

Like this (don't copy and paste the text, it will not work).

OK, I see. You're right, some people would need to avoid leaving the mouse pointer over avatars (unless they had used a postulated Music Off button). Perhaps this wouldn't outweigh the benefits of the feature itself, though?

Referring to centred images I still don't see how you do it. (Sorry!) The code you posted looks like the standard code. When I do it that way my images come out as in this post.

PS Any idea what happened to the 'silver lining'?

I would like to see projects presented so as to orginize efforts into specific areas....
so maybe a monthly project to debunk or prove something that people can all work together on instead of us making a thread on our own...or following one we like....(which is great too) but way too random

maybe a goal oriented thread/project that brings together the talent we have here already.....so maybe a project about alternative energy would have a list of people we would like to get in on it....so physicists, technicians of all fields, etc....people with less credentials can simply bring evidence they find important and have it explained and filtered out before adding to the main project as fact.....so maybe have threads that are all conected to the project that in the end are comed over for relevant material to be used in the main project....

A group leader should be a mod or long time poster....or a guest specialist to keep the project on track....

I think this site has alot of information and organizing it would be the next step....maybe in a structured way...

Hi. I think I have some good news for you. It sounds like you may not have come across the Research Forum.

(There has already been some serious collaboration on some intriguing subjects...)

I think the page would do well to have either an exclusive mobile app for the forums, or a more mobile-device friendly layout as an option...if that doesn't already exist and I just don't know about it.

I think it would, as any annoying feature looks like it's ten times worse, while a positive feature looks natural and people almost forget they didn't had it before.

That's because you are using a different code. You used this [‍pic]zc4ef455b0.jpg[‍/pic], which gives you this:

instead of something like [‍atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/files/img/zc4ef455b0.jpg[‍/atsimg], which gives you this:[atsimg]http://files.abovetopsecret.com/files/img/zc4ef455b0.jpg[/atsimg]

I would like a "Bottom" button to scroll you to the last reply on the current page. I also saw that somebody else had found that the "Home" and "End" keys will take you to the top or bottom of a page, however I am on an iPad and it does not have "Home" and "End" keys. It sure would save a lot of scrolling... Thanks for your consideration.

So, zero Mods respond to this seemingly simple request, that had at least one "yeah, that would be useful" right below it?

Warrant Canary [wiki]

A warrant canary is a method used by an Internet service provider to inform their customers that the provider has not been served with a secret government subpoena. Such subpoenas, including those covered under the USA Patriot Act, provide criminal penalties for revealing the warrant to a third party, such as the customers. A warrant canary may be posted by the provider to inform customers of dates that they haven't been served a secret subpoena. If the canary has not been updated in the time period specified by the host, customers are to assume that they have been served with such a subpoena. Theoretically, this allows the provider to inform customers of subpoenas without violating any laws.

I am wondering why the 2012 US Elections forum is not listed on the Forums page?

It is not listed on the ATS homepage either.

I remember much more political discussion on ATS in 2008 (in terms of post count per day) but I think discussion is being somewhat stifled by these two omissions.

Thanks

Actually I don't get that page at all. URL?

Also. Click the "forums" link in my post, or at the top menu bar and tell me if you still see this News group.

You posted this in your first post:

"I am wondering why the 2012 US Elections forum is not listed on the Forums page?

Your second link is going to where I took the screenshot in my last post from so I'm confident you do in fact get that page, lol.

Also. Click the "forums" link in my post, or at the top menu bar and tell me if you still see this News group.

I do see it - Thus why I was able to take a screenshot which I posted in my last post.

Can't you take a screenshot and post what you can see?

I somehow doubt you were on the forums page. It is the button in the middle of the menu at the top of the screen...

Here is my screenshot of the forums page, you can even see the url in my address bar.

Secondly, take a look at the ATS homepage. Neither forum is there in the text list.
