Well there is no hard evidence of these weapons being used but there are numerous reports of the effects of mysterious weapon injuries in Iraq.

Basically they are talking about invisible weapons......lasers, active denial systems, etc.

This is video evidence of unknown weapons that burn peoples heads and teeth, but leave the rest of the body intact, also evidence of weapons that shrink muscle. I guess bodies were found that were shrunk to around a meter in size.

This is pretty scary considering that they are testing these weapons in a war now. At least with a bullet you can plug the whole, what can you do with these weapons?

Video Here Vid

Yup I posted something on here in the weaponry section talking about America's beam weapons, I wouldn't be surprised if they were being tested at this moment.

excellent post, are these weopons still being deployed against the terrorists? If these weopons were disclosed wouldn't the insurgents be terrified? great propaganda/ pr idea.

Great propaganda? What do you mean by that? Do you think you can specify? Thank you.

Well, that RAI video was pretty information-free.

For a while, there was a much longer statement from both doctors online over at AlJazeera, and it was just chock-full of bits even RAI wouldn't put in. Unfortunately, they've pulled it and I didn't save it. But "doctor no. 2" really gets into it with a tale of something being shot into their stomachs, and crawling up their necks where it slices their heads off to escape. I guess it was too nuts even for RAI.

You'll note there weren't any pictures or hard evidence either, although the cameraman seemed to be trying really hard to imply it by zooming in on a random Iraqi child (NOT involved with the 'incident') while the doctor was speaking.

The things you should ask yourself in the name of common sense seem to be:

1) What "shrinks" people? How can that possibly happen? Even if they were cooked, the bones wouldn't shrink. Ever baked a bone-in ham? Did the bone shrink? I've done entire hogs...no pint-size minihog at the end.

2) Maybe you'll get something different, but it seemed to be that they were saying no survivors, then the driver survived, then there were other survivors. It was pretty confusing. But if there were ANY survivors, wouldn't you interview THEM?

3) What cuts off arms, legs and heads of people in a moving van, but leaves the limbs and torso intact? Can you think of any vantage point from which even a science fiction movie laser could dissect limbs from a trunk? It's tough even for one person, because to cut the arms off takes a different angle than the legs, and in most cases you can get a pair of limbs but not all of them. When you have a moving van full of people, it would take 50 invisible ninja laser warriors to cover all the angles. Further, while I could almost see burning their heads off and leaving the rest unharmed, the doctors repeatedly described that the legs were cut off as well. How does this happen without just liquifying the van? And if that happened, how could there have been so many un-incinerated body parts? Remember, the doctors had a very detailed and gruesome description of the inside of the van. They did not say it was melted into a puddle, it had entrails scattered here and there (on the roof?). Given the detail level of the descriptions, that seems odd to omit.

4) One doctor recounts the driver having said (I think) that they turned around at a checkpoint, there was a flash, and all the people's arms and legs fell off. That implies that the thing that could do this would be at a checkpoint (would you place a new secret weapon at a common checkpoint?). Further, the driver's account didn't cover "and there were really huge and/or unusual looking things there".

RAI later tries to link Zeus, THEL, the Ionatron and VMADS to the story as possible culprits. VMADS couldn't possibly cut off arms and legs. Zeus could maybe set their hair on fire and give them really nasty facial burns, but it doesn't focus anywhere near tightly enough to cut off limbs, even if it had the power. A THEL could probably do you some damage in terms of cooking you like a barbecue, but the beam from a THEL is anything but razor-thin. Ionatron is still a pipedream, but it's more of an electrical discharge down a plasma channel carved by a UV guide laser. It's sort of a super taser thing, I don't think it was ever intended to cook anything.

Moreover, these things are all big, weird looking or both. THEL and Ionatron have to be towed in on 18 wheelers. That laser head you see in THEL photos doesn't show the 18 wheeler sized support trucks in the background. It takes a LOT of crap to make a THEL go. VMADS has that big phased array antenna. Zeus is probably the least abnormal looking thing in the bunch.

The 'witness' also claims there was no sound. Just a flash, and everyone was dead. THEL sounds like a freight train - it's big, it has a lot of crap attached, and when it's fired it vents a huge cloud of steam under a lot of pressure. And it smells funny. Zeus and Ionatron take a big diesel generator so they 'rev up' for several seconds before a shot. VMADS takes most of the vehicle power so they rev up too, but it's not as intrusive as a Zeus or Ionatron. None of these things are silent by any stretch.

On top of which, the description was something like "they turned around at the checkpoint, and as they passed the checkpoint going back, there was a flash ..."

Now, that sounds like it would be awfully close to the checkpoint physically, right? Where the other guys are standing? If you've ever fired a big IR laser at something, you know that you don't just stand around near the target. You can get all sorts of random reflections off the target as you illuminate it, and at a power level high enough to cause random spontaneous limb detachment (heh) you would be in extreme danger yourself if you were just a few feet away. You'll notice the driver didn't say, "and as I turned around, everyone suddenly jumped behind a big barricade and put on goggles"

I was thinking that the Zues equipped Hummer or a similair system was used against personel for whatever reason

Tom, thanks for the very sensible, logical and well argued analysis. I agree 100%

As far as "eye witness" testimony goes these doctors lend their story about as much credibility as an American beer.

Zeus is used for unexploded ordnance disposal.

It's got a 10kW IR laser. 10kW is a comparative lot, but it's not earth shaking. It is exceptional that Dr. Hofer got it that small.

In the field, you can toast up mines or shells at some distance, up to 250 meters for small stuff. The closer you are, the faster it goes. The laser heats up the shell until it deflagrates. That's the point where the filler catches fire or goes off in a low-order explosion. They don't want the thing to detonate. It takes maybe 5 minutes worth for the bigger shells at 100 meters to heat them to the point they deflagrate.

10kW isn't going to make you glow and vanish like a Star Trek phaser beam or something.

When I was a teenager, I worked for the USCEC. We had this 10kW CO2 laser on a boat that they had built for an experiment, in this case, they were trying to see if they could clear hydrilla and water hyacinths without using herbicides. That answer would be 'no'.

The problem was that you could burn them off level with the water given a few minutes, but they grew back in a few days. 10kW just wasn't enough to heat the water. You could park right on top of the bank and boil the water down about 3 feet along the beam but that's it. Boiling them to death was inefficient.

Worse, any wind and the reflections on the waves would send stray beams all over the boat. I can tell you from bitter experience that a 10kW IR laser bouncing off a wave maybe 10 feet away will make you scream and jump behind stuff swatting at your clothes, but won't make you disintegrate or your arms fall off.

After we got bored, we started playing with it. You can break windows in cars quite some distance away. Maybe a quarter to half a mile. We were not able to shoot down birds (dammit) but we could run them out of trees. It was sort of a let down, frankly.

Oh, yeah, something I didn't think of when I first watched this.

None of these things except Ionatron has any visible flash.

VMADS just revs up and people run around. You don't see any flash, there's nothing flashy, it's a radio wave.

THEL is infrared. You hear the support truck pumps, there's a huge roar and a whoosh of stinky steam. The end. No visible light. The same for Zeus...it's infrared also, as are the AF's various COIL lasers.

Ionatron is bright, flashy, and noisy. But I'm not sure what would happen if you shot it at a metallic van, it's intended to detonate IEDs buried in the dirt.

Some variants of PIKL make bright flashes at the target, but they don't burn off limbs. Big PIKLs are primarily a concussion weapon, and you have to hit the target with it dead on. Shooting the van with it would leave huge dents but wouldn't cut off legs. Little PIKLs are like tasers on steroids.

I have seen Active Denial Systems and of course LRAD on board ships used overseas often.
Then there are the damaging effects of all the infra-red designator lasers used. Often times these are used without the protective goggles by the end users. Even some of the green lasers gave off more IR than expected, so not wearing the goggles was more damaging to the users of the laser.
These lasers may not be powerful enough to knock out bombs, but they are not allowed for civilian sale due to FDA restrictions.
