But Jamuhn, this is happening in India and not America. I doubt anyone in India is pushing this on them. They are only hurting other Indo businessman and not America when they act up like that.

Valentines day: a "holiday" which just encourages promiscuity, comercialism, and was named after a nutsack (Valentinus)- why do we still celebrate this? Why do we celebrate Halloweeen as well (sure kids love it, but a national holiday? plz....)

Valentine's day and Halloween is to have "fun". Since when did Valentine's Day promote promiscuity? I have yet to see a card that sez

"HEY IT'S VALENTINE'S DAY. LET'S HAVE SEX."

That's like calling a Fruit of the Loom or Hanes ad a porno mag.

It's to show love and affection.

These holidays are to bring a little "fun and humour" into life.

...the problem though is that society pushes this holiday onto them and their kids. Just about every school in America celebrates Valentine's Day as well, so this is not something that the average Muslim can just forget about if they wish to retain their own culture.

You mean like Black History Month and Martin Luther King Day? Some find these offensive, as well, but you don't see much in the way of protest, vandalism and mayhem as a result. But, as the previous poster noted, these protests are taking place in Kashmir and not in the US.

I would like to point out that both Halloween and Valentine's day have their roots in religion and I find it somewhat odd that the politically correct crowd in the US allow these events to be celebrated in the schools while Christmas and Easter have been banished.

Fair enough. Just so you know, the fact that these guys are Muslims or Hindus or whatever matters not to me. If lonely Americans who didn't have anyone to celebrate Valentines Day with were protesting Valentines Day in this same fashion, I'd be cracking on them just as hard.

As far as Muslims having VD pushed on them, well, this is America and it's what we do. Yes, people should be more sensitive to Muslim belief and not "force" it on them, but we're a melting pot here and we all have to bend a little.

I remember in elementary school giving and receiving the paper Valentines hearts to/from all the little fourth grade honeys. There was no lust filled sexual activity going on. It was completely innocent!

This guy Khalid's got a lot of nerve talking about lust and sexual satisfaction, I mean, we're not the ones allowing just post-pubescent girls to get married.

Peace

This kind of propoganda incites the simple minded people into acts of violence.

Hotsheets,
If this issue truly burns you up, I suggest you are way too easily manipulated. Come back to light.....

Interesing how you are preaching to the wrong group. It might very well be that you should be preaching to those who destroy because others dare dop something different from their way.
Of course, this should be obvious. What I can't understand is why you would suggest that Hotsheets should ignore those who destroy because THEY refuse to ignore.
Are we to ignore them until everything non-Muslim is incinerated, and all those who are not Muslim are either converted, killed or a dhimmi? This destruction of another person's property in the name of Islam is yet another example of how the lunacy is feeding upon itself. Nickels to donuts that this was inspired by the other stupidity, the other example of intolerance displayed.

Raiding shops is just silly though.

Silly would be a good word, if Muslims were not so destructive and murderous. This is just one more example of what the Muslims want to do to the entire world. It is time to stop playing the tolerance game with these intolerant, murderous savages. Kashmir might not be in a position to do much about such instances, but we in the free world have the means to put a stop to this behavior, though it will be a long, costly and difficult challenge.

eh-- Its nothing a few well placed small nukes couldnt handle. I know the backlash that will insue, but seriously..... Can you think of a different group who deserve to be purged more than these "people"?

To my knowledge, neither of these are national holidays. We celebrate them because they are fun and they feed the economy, but it is ironic that these are still allowed in the schools when Christmas and Easter are verboten. Valentine's Day actually celebrates romantic love, which is, as many know is a form of temporary insanity. It is not in comprehensible that the Muslims would find such, well, incomprehensible.

Sounds like these black-veiled Islamic hags hate Valentines day for reasons that they would never admit and maybe their just abit jealous because nobody gave them a Valentine card with flowers and candy.

I bet if their husbands came home with a card, candy and flowers...their whole attitude would change.

I always found the whole Christmas and Easter debate trivial as I honestly have never met anyone that objects to those holidays being celebrated. The celebration of Lunar New Year, Diwali is also now practiced in schools in Canada. Kids have always enjoyed celebrating cultural events (anything to get away from the books) during class. I have no clue how this political correctness involving Christian holidays started.

The thing is whether or not you agree with a particular point of view you have to admit that living in the US or Canada allows one to practice your lifestyle/culture without worrying about getting harrassed or killed 99.999% of the time. For as much fault as North American society has, we are able to be critical of it without fearing repercussion. (most of the time)

Just a personal opinion but I would never want to live in a middle eastern country that is Islam-based. I find this whole notion of Muslim Brotherhood to be hypocritical. Asian countries don't appeal to each other on a "Buddhist Brotherhood" nor do western countries appeal on a "Christian Brotherhood." There are select political parties and groups that appeal on Christianity but rarely in violence. The amount of violence committed in the name of Islam is ridiculous and there are not enough Imams speaking out against violence. I often wonder why the violent hateful Imams in western countries remain here? If they truly despise western culture so much why don't they return to a society that they feel more comforable in?

I spoke to an Imam at my gym and he has been active against speaking out against violence but he believes that women should know "their place" and that they should be segregated from men. My Indo friend and I had a long talk with him but sometimes you just can't change old school thinking.

I still agree that Valentine's day is a waste of time and money. A day which celebrates lust and conjugal love and named after a sex magic practicing 4th century Roman Heretic who nearly became a pope. Halloween the same. Halloween is a national holiday, they should strike it off just like Valentines day.

Valentine's day is what you make of it. I think most people think of it as a day where you do something nice for your loved one and not sex, magic, potions or popes.

It is a holiday by name but it's not like you get the day off.

In Korea there's 21 Valentine style days in the year where you do something symbolic for your better half.
