Just launched, the new google talk is out.

Its pretty sweet, and only 900 kb !

Check it out.

Not the most innovative of their projects, but fair play to them for their valiant attempts at taking over the internet.

If so, can you tell me if it's worth me downloading it?

I used it last night with a friend. It works well.

Its a very simple IM system. It has a nice clean interface, very simple to use program.

Its a good program, if your friends have gmail accounts. The voice features are nice and have excellent sound quality.

Wow, google must be makin some serious money with all this stuff.

Google Talk isnt even showing up in the Google Labs yet, but its creating a bit of a stir.

I like it.
Quick simple install.
Very small footprint, yet fast text chat. Check googlemail with it, etc.
No ads or flashy bells and whistles, no cookie like MSN.
Nice clear quick voice chat.

It cut right thru my firewall, no adjustments needed.

Only drawback I see is no file transfer, no emoticons and no games.
But with google mail, who needs file transfers anyway?

I normally use MSN IM for chat, and Skype for voice.

All in all, a good addition to their growing empire.

I think they will be adding font support and various other "IM Staples" in the up and coming versions. Reading through the FAQ's it seems that way anyhow.

And yet one more addition to the oversized stack of applications that don't work on a mac. I CANNOT wait until my new computer arrives.

But it sounds like a really cool IM to have around.

Does anyone know a IM System which can handle MSN,Yahoo! Messenger and other Messenger programs in one program? For MacOS X if possible.

That I do, Trillian, didn't like it for some reason though.

ANYWAY, you could use a nice, FREE open-source alternative to AIM named "Gaim", which is for GNU/Linux, Windows and Mac. It works very well, except for the file transfer part... that's the only poopy feature on it.

I use it here on Windows and also in whatever distro of GNU/Linux I'm using (Gentoo, Debian, etc.)

Oh yeah... here's the link for it... gaim.sourceforge.net... (oh, and it also supports other protocols like MSN, Yahoo!, Jabber, ICQ, IRC, SILC, Novell GroupWise, Napster, Zephyr, and Gadu-Gadu all at once!)

It may not be AS intuitive, but it makes up for that by being more convienient, less annoying, and not made by AOL.

In short... Gaim is awesome. Try it.
