Chicago is a perfect example of leftist policies in action.

They now want state-run stores.

Nothing happens by accident.

^^ THAT.

Rampant crime due to 'soft on crime' leftist policies coupled with smash and grab mega shoplifting sprees by crowds of people ... stores go out of business and the city erodes further. Now Chicago, one of the worst run cities in the country, wants 'state run stores' for 'food equity'. Instead of going after crime and criminals, they resort to communism and keep their failed soft on crime policies in place. SHEER STUPIDITY OR MARXISM. I say BOTH.

ETA .. the grocery stores here in my city - Wilmington Delaware - are so hit hard by brazen shoplifters that the cashiers and store workers are told not to try to stop them because they have been assaulted (shot, stabbed, beaten) when trying to do so. Theft is considered a way of life for the criminals.

There's more to it than that:

A reduction in violence isn't a panacea in those communities. Even if all the shootings stopped, there's still poverty, underinvestment and lack of opportunity to contend with—not to mention the lingering effects of trauma and behavior patterns that come with living in communities where violence has been the norm for generations.

"Violence is a symptom of a community that is under-resourced and needs additional support," says Yolanda Fields, executive director of Breakthrough, a Garfield Park nonprofit whose services include violence-interruption programming as part of a coalition called Communities Partnering 4 Peace, or CP4P. "Ending violence is not the solution to everybody thriving. It's one stressed component."

There was a global pandemic and the entire world shut down.

Correction - there was a global plan/scamdemic perpetrated on the world used as justification to shut down the world.

major deflationary pressure like that is just as devastating if not worse within the systems we have in place.

Yes, it multiplied the devastation caused by the shutdowns by an order of magnitude or more, but has nothing whatsoever to do with why rents, energy and everything else people need to live are skyrocketing.

It is anything BUT 'greed' as the person I was replying to suggested.

Ah, so it was all a conspiracy? And not an attempt to save people's lives?

The money injected into the economy, to you know, save people from starving and not be evicted by greedy landlords, or banks foreclosing homes, can't just be vacuumed back in.

They will focus on places like Chicago but will ignore the rising crime and murder rates in deep red states overall. And then blame some other demographics.

When it comes to restaurants. I can see why. Most restaurants are terrible now. The food just isn't good anymore. I can make better quality food at home for a quarter of what they are charging. It used to be that you went to a restaurant and the food tasted great for what you paid. Not so much now.

Absolutely correct. One restaurant I went to I had to send my order back 2X to the chef (not a cook) and finally I just gave up. The waiter said to me "Oh you must be a home cook". "Yes, I am and that's what the problem is?" I think any restaurant that wants to get me out of the kitchen and into their restaurant should have food that is better than mine, but almost none of them do.

I agree, is many restaurants that are nothing short of fast food, but in my personal choices I got to restaurants to be seated and attended, to have somebody else cook my food, soo I chose carefully and expect to pay a higher price.

If people just want to just feed, for cheap they can always choose the drive thru on their favorite fast-food place.

Fast food has had the highest price increases because of inflation. They rely on huge supply chains and fuel costs, rise in commissary budget models too. Whereas a mom and pop shop can cut corners with spending, or decide to unfortunatelyay off an employee and just work doubles, or something.

It's a good time to actually start an affordable cheap eats place right now.

It might be the soaring high cost of rental units, some are going up 10 to 20 percent these days. Is it once again greed within capitalism?

We don’t want or need your communism , that’s why you’re here . It makes sense now . You are full on for a one world totalitarian government. It didn’t work for China or Russia or Italy or Germany . You would of been very high up in those governments , do you get what I’m saying about you ? Do you see what you embody in your life ? Is what you’re getting worth it ?

You look ignorant whenever you post something. I'll help you:

Communism is an ideology that bases itself on the belief that the means of production in a society should belong to the state. Through central ownership, it aims for a classless society with economic equality between individuals. The history of communism began in the second half of the nineteenth century in Europe.

You are a communist .

Of course I am not, ignorant reply.

Everything you post is exactly what a socialist , Marxist , fascist communist would say . It’s the 100 percent truth . Does anyone think she is not ? Let me know I’ll wait

Everything I post is to reiterate that the existing economy, trickle down, has never and will never work for the middle and lower classes and if you or anyone else here think capitalism is the only way to go, then I have other descriptive words I can use and it won't be geared towards political ideologies. Every political ideology has its problems and none of them work, so what is needed is a new way of doing things and I think Biden's ideology; from the middle out and from the bottom up, and taxing the very wealthy corporations/elite is the way to go.

And by the way, stay on topic, you are getting annoying with your going after the player and not the ball.

Biden is a fascist just like you . You like how Biden is doing it but Biden has sold his soul to China and the swamp who you are championing every minute . Your mask has been taken off and you’ve been called out for what you are . I’d be pissed too I’d I were you

Whatever Biden is, he seems to be the only one who is trying something different. Let's wait and see what transpires before making assumptions. Can you do that?

I'm sorry, that's just bulls#it. He's not trying anything 'different'. And just how long do you let a drowning man linger before attempting a rescue? While they're still thrashing or after they quit moving? We are DESPERATE. We have the highest drug deaths ever, the most homeless, the highest addiction rates, the highest crime rates, the most businesses closing, the LOWEST educational test scores.....are you kidding me now? It's been waaay too long already my friend.

Democrats call it equality, they started that to try to get the votes of the minority.

The hell with the repercussions of such stupidity will bring to the rest of the real hard-working Americans and taxpayers that to the position they are doing just that, "hard work".

It's the 1980s recession all over again, and back then it was President Reagan at the helm. Something's gotta give.

Deep blue cities in red states, you mean. Believe me, if you live in a red state, you stay out of the cities.

I must live in the twilight zone, because here in the bay area of Florida it seems to be the opposite. new businesses are opening every week and the Tampa skyline seems to grow every season. We are in the process of doubling the middle bridge that connects this side of the bay with Pinellas county.

ironically, construction did not stop because of some law that would enforce penalties against hiring illegals. Its been a whole quarter now, and construction never stopped. The lawns are still getting serviced, and the food is still fully stocked on shelves. Despite what seems like more cash transactions than ever at the retail level, I have not seen any banks in this city close down this year. Bank of America tore one down in Town n Country, but only because that building was really old, dated, and they are rebuilding it across the street.

I guess the empire is crumbling everywhere except where Governor DeSantis manages with sense and rationality. Sure seems like presidential material to me. fastest growing state in America because of his management and refusal to bend his knee to European Monarchs and NAZI's of the World Economic Forum. Lets not forget he has signed into law policies against the WEF goal such as banning CBDC's and preventing turning our elementary schools into pornography hubs where perverts can freely put on freakshows.

Or, they can buy a hot dog cart or a grill with wheels and sell tacos and roast corn in the parks? oh wait, they have to compete with the immigrants already packing the sidewalks with 'home businesses'.

The licensed businesses are already pressuring local govt to shut these small businesses down.

Sooner or later, someone is going to get food poisoning.

What's wrong with giving the public choices/options and they won't stay in business long with questionable hygiene, and don't you think they know that? So as for sooner or later someone is going to get food poisoning, sure it could happen and it could be from a third party food vendor, not their fault.

Lots of streets in them thar cities.

You know they smear mayo on roast corn, right? After being out in the park all day. So what if someone dies from salmonella. That vendor will never ever be found. And will still be out pushing his grill on wheels the next day. Same old jar of mayo.

There is a reason restaurants are inspected. Public safety.

What the world is going on there's not going to be any places pretty soon to shop at. I don't have the link but Sun newspaper just reported a whole bunch more closings so I guess you can check the internet on that part.

Not a problem, the government is already looking at city owned stores for your needs...
Chicago mayor considers creating city-owned grocery store after Walmart, Whole Foods close stores in the city

What could go wrong?
