I"m placing this news article in the Dissecting Disinformation Forum in an attempt to shed light on dis-information being spread on ATS

Two days ago on July 21st a thread was posted claiming that Gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin of New York was attacked by a ''rabid leftist'' .
The claim made in the Opening Post presented the ''attack'' as part of an over-arching Liberal plan to intimidate Republicans and urged conservatives to carry weapons to all political events.
Here is that thread.
www.abovetopsecret.com...

Few responders in that thread suggested waiting until more information was available to the public as to the nature of the assailant and the motives behind his adventure on that stage. Well now, two days later, more information is coming out on the man,

His name is David Jacubonis.

From the article in the Daily Mail we can read that

The New York man who attempted to stab US Rep. Lee Zeldin said he didn't know who the politician was and only approached him to try to take his microphone after he was told the gubernatorial candidate was 'disrespecting veterans.'

Information gathered from a neighbor indicates that Jacubonis was detached from reality after his wife died and he was discharged from the military.
Further indications of is struggle with alcohol and dissociative behavior can be found in the article in the Daily Mail as provided

www.dailymail.co.uk...

So, not a ''rabid Liberal'' as reported earlier though that of course may be subject to change as further information that comes our way in the next period of time.

He just tried to take Zeldin's mic?
Why did he have a knife in his hand?

At the end of the day, ATS is a social media platform exhibiting moderate to radical behaviors as much as any other internet device. That includes (not limited to, but includes) yellow journalism, hyperbolic headlines and outrage porn for the easily inflamed loyalists. It applies to all the corners of politics and media culture.

One of the guys that tackled him helps veterans get help for a living and is supposedly waiting for the legal aspect to be settled then he will try to make sure he gets help.

Indeed.

What is interesting though is the tactics used, and the target of some folks ire is for using those same tactics and doing those same things.

It's like hypocrisy...squared.

It's been great entertainment!

Doesn't matter. The idea has been planted, that's how disinformation works. As long as eyes see it, they'll believe it. They've already got their minds made up.

Unfortunate but it's reality these days. I'm sure there are still people who believe Smollett is innocent. It goes both ways.

The best strategy for combating media bias is more media and more bias.

I heard that and thought that was a classy move. If only more people cared about the mental health of vets, they might get help for folks before they make the news.

Yep. Trump engineered a coup on the Capitol January 6th using covert words. I totally know what you mean.

What are you talking about? No one even mentioned January 6th.

Wrong thread?

Thank you for posting this, S&F. There is a lot of misinformation on ATS, and it's rare to see someone actually correct some of it. I hope the veteran gets the help he so badly needs.

Precisely. That is the point. This thread was created in an attempt to demonstrate that ''rush to judgment'' is not to be considered as gospel.

To grab the mic? That is what he said he was doing. Watch the video. That shows that it could be what he was doing rather than attempting to injure Zeldon. As well, his comment of '' you're done'' could mean that rather than you're done as in killing him it could mean, your time at the mic is over. The guy was drunk after all.

Why did he have the knife? Why ask me, I wasn't there and I do not know him or his reasons for doing anything, I'm just relating what he told police. Really it was a key fob of a cat made of plastic and the two points were the ears. And yes one could do damage with them but mostly as he claimed for self defense. Not really a weapon of choice for a ''rabid liberal'' intent on bodily harm against a Republican now is it.?

I think yo summed it up nicely in that previous thread when you said

Don't worry, they'll abandon the thread when/if the perp is identified as anything other than a liberal and ignore that the thread ever existed in the first place before moving on to the next click bait title.

I must admit that in the rush of daily information I had almost forgotten it as well. But another thread about the perp getting out of jail already reminded me that a couple of days had past so I went looking for up to date info which I then brought to this thread.

Now the goalposts have been moved to "he was treated preferentially". It's like there's a neverending line of reasons for them to be mad about something, regardless of what happens or what facts come out.

It must be exhausting to be in a constant state of outrage over every little thing that the media shoves in your face.

As a New Yorker myself I really don't care what was the political persuasion of "the New York man who attempted to stab US Rep. Lee Zeldin" .... but is it true that the soft on crime policies the Democrats have enacted in the state set the man free hours after the assault? A man who struggled with alcohol and dissociative behavior?

That disturbed me as well that he was let out on his own recognizance, though the charges I'm pretty sure only warrant that. However this was in the course of a federal official in the capacity of a political campaign. One would think that there would be stronger or more specific charges levied against him until such time as he is tried. Again, I don't know, just speculating.

Thanks Chief. It only seemed right to me to put a counter to the original report that painted such ''information free'' accusations.

It is sold specifically as a weapon...not a key chain.
It's also designed to puncture the jugular...which is where Zeldin said the guy was reaching when he grabbed his attacker's wrist.

The video footage also clearly shows the attacker aiming the hand holding the stabbing tool at Zeldin's neck.

My Kitty Self Defense Keychain is made of SUPER STRONG, Lightweight ABS plastic.

The fact that it is "SUPER STRONG, Lightweight ABS plastic"...makes it obvious he chose it to get it through any metal detectors at the rally.
