Truth be told, the entire planet experienced the growth of American excess. There was a time when McDs, BK and others were only in the US, now they are everywhere and that is probably not appropriate. Many worldwide are ready for a change, an end to the rat race...The federal government will likely shrink dramatically as useless and poorly managed programs are cut. Those who live in the twitter/instagram/FB/meta/sphere might have a hard time adjusting; many will choose not to. It will be OK but loads of people will be out of work and reassigned. In a few years time, we will even have a cure for those who took the vaccine/boosters. I think we are going to have to act and provide locally, all over the world.

I'm predicting that at the end of March, we are going to see some nasty stuff. From today, we have about 15 months to prepare for the politicians begin eating themselves and the government begins to truly crumble. Anyone sucking on the government teet for sustenance is going to be up a creek and we're going to have to help each other.

I am looking forward to a simpler life but, as you have mentioned, it isn't going to be easy.

On a side note, it takes too long to get a gun out of the closet and load it when you really need it. You never know when you might need a loaded gun or two (case you lose one).

Late Boomer here. Retired in 2018 with pension and full medical/dental insurance. Worked part-time for "fun money" until COVID hit in 2020. "Resigned" due to pandemic and found I was eligible for unemployment. Pandemic UI plus my pension meant I was making more in retirement than I made working full time during my career days!

All that "extra" cash has gone into savings and home improvement. Still a nice chunk left.

As soon as the supply lines improve a bit, I plan on installing a freezer in the garage (the one I want is currently back-ordered).

In just a few years I'll be able to collect social security at my full rate (several years before the pundits expect the fund to run out, if Congress does nothing to fix it, which is unlikely).

As I planned before retiring, my pension, which is backed by state (CA) law, plus my SS income, will exceed my full annual salary by more than $1,000 per month.

I don't have much of a green thumb myself (although the tomatoes I planted came up bountiful and delicious when I took a shot at growing my own a few years ago), but I have nearby family members who have any number fresh fruits and veggies planted in their large gardens and greenhouses.

Just wish I wasn't such a carnivore at heart!

The issue we are looking at, is that our pension plans and social security are built upon the sand.

One good wave and we will all be washed out to sea, fighting to keep our heads above water, and many of us will drown.

The system was never set up to truly benefit the elderly. It was set up to make the con men rich, and richer.

Things are falling apart. The amount of money needed to make the pay outs that will be required does not exist.

A change is coming. The great reset, the new green deal, transhumanism, Elysium, whatever it is called, it is coming.

We need to be prepared.

Sure, I get it, MSBuck. Yes, there will be shortages but Jesus fed the throngs and His teachings will help us do the same.

You will be needed in your community and it might be training men and boys. If your still here after the last two years, you're part of the solution. You might not be thrilled about that but you'll experience some satisfaction and it doesn't get much better then that.

if grandma didnt have to work to supplement her social security....
there would INSTANTLY be millions of jobs available in retail.
Nobody that reaches retirement age, should have to worry about losing their homes.
(the banking vultures will still be there in a few years after you die)

ANYONE that commits crime against elderly...(especially scam artists)
should GET LIFE IN PRISON, NO PAROLE

just think of all the benefits the governmint dont hafto pay now,,,,
everyone who quit because of the jab, all the cops that quit,

This sounds like something we, as citizens, should take action on. I will write to the governor of my state in the coming weeks. I wonder how one gets an issue out in the world...AARP?

Long over due.

I have seen people that have lived out here in these woods, get displaced because of the steady over taking of the area with urbanization. I have watched the prices of our homes skyrocket, and it brings nothing of benefit to us.

It only causes our taxes to reach levels where they can't be paid by the old folk and those on minimum income. When they can't pay those ridiculous rise in taxes, on property they have lived on their entire lives, they either have to sell or they are evicted.

It is evil and inhumane.

AARP is a scam. it is something specifically designed to take away people's inheritance. and thus ensure people will stay in debt, paying for housing their entire lives. no inheriting a house that is paid for and can either be lived in, or sold in order to purchase or pay off a home for their offspring. it is quite simply "loaning money" with the house as "collateral", with no payments due until after the borrower dies, at which point all the money borrowed has to be immediately paid back, with interest (which pretty much no one can afford to do), or the house goes bye bye. which insure that the borrower's family will not be enriched by getting the house. and at the same time keeping that housing market going full steam ahead.

I think you are confusing AARP, the American Association of Retired Persons, with a Reverse Mortgage.

AARP is essentially a lobbying organization for individuals over the age of 55 years old. It does, as I recall, endorse at least one reverse mortgage provider, but it is not itself a lender.

I do agree that reverse mortgages are, generally, less than ideal in most circumstances, for the reason you state.

However, there are those who, due to financial difficulties beyond their control, find such mortgages to be helpful, and even, necessary.

Now they want to kill us all off using Covid and Covid vaxx plus denying us our retirement. Inflation makes it that much harder to make it on the small amount provided.

It is true that many have been putting off for tomorrow what should have been done today.

Retirement is not the only thing that we have placed on the back burner for way too long. Our entire society is showing the cracks and the evidence of deterioration in our country. We did nothing when we should of done something, on a number of levels.

But we have enough excuses to hold us over until it really will be too late, and will not make a difference.
