I think there is a general presupposition that Asian people are always (the ones that are our scapegoats) at any given time.
An example would be during WWII, a lot Asians were often generalized and assumed to be Japanese.
And of course, those that were deemed Japanese were segregated into camps.

During Covid times, Asians have been deemed Chinese by idiots. Called names, told to go back to their country, etc.
Even though they could have been Filipino Americans.
