Once that's over, we should have final numbers. I'd wager in the UK, there will also be final numbers. For your sake, I hope you don't understand the data you provided. a 13% increase in overall deaths is massive. That would put survivability rates for covid in the 87% and not the high 90's like we see here.

One is the survivability of people infected with covid the other is the increse in overall people dying. Different metrics you can't just add them like that.

One is the survivability of people infected with covid the other is the increse in overall people dying. Different metrics you can't just add them like that.

not directly, but average deaths per year from all causes is a pretty basic number. A new variable has been introduced, that being Covid. So for a really basic look, we should see either a massive spike (which you elude to) or none at all. If we don't see the massive spike, logic would sway towards the virus not being the planet killer it was billed as. If the spike is there, then we are all doomed. We can't hide from a virus. They are very patient things. They can wait as long as you want to hide.

I don't recall any serious source describing this as anything like a planet killer. There is a wide spectrum of how deadly any virus is. You can have different option if the number of deaths this virus could cause was proportional to the response. However there is no real debate to be had that this virus is causing a lot of extra deaths.

From memory that gave a figure of 2.2 million total deaths in the US if absolutely no action or change of behaviour. A scenario it described as extremely unlikely.

The US has already had about 300k deaths with all the measures in place.

I agree the data won't lie which is why I am using the current real data from the UK rather how I feel it might turn out.
