Today the owner of binance and another crypto exchange started sending out some scam tweets. I'm assuming that there's some new vulnerability in the wild affecting twitter.

Highly doubt whomever did it is in the US. Hacks like these usually come from a spoofed IP from a country that the US has no jurisdiction in.

While they may find the person/people responsible, doubt they can do much.

Wonder how much they made before it got shut down.

On the other hand part of me just shrugs and thinks "Anyone naive and greedy enough to fall for that nonsense maybe learned an expensive lesson?"

I disagree with many in this thread. This is a big effing deal. All those who are dismissing this as insignificant, and having a belly laugh about it...

Consider this: Not only was Twitter hacked, but their Two-Factor Authentication system (which is a very reliable form of security) was compromised, short-circuited, or otherwise negated. the company itself- from low level techs all the way up to CEO Jack Douchey- were also locked out, and unable to gain control of the compromised accounts (apparently until later on, when every blue check was reactivated). I mean, the Twitter account of BARACK F'ing OBAMA was sending out half-assed scam messages to send him bitcoin, and he would send you back double. BARACK OBAMA. That's not the same as Lil' Wayne or Paris Hilton's dog having their account hacked, friends.
A thought experiment: What if the people behind the hack of former Pres Barry's account, instead of tweeting the cheesy bitcoin grab, had sent this out:
