700,000 young immigrants — often called DREAMers — who were brought to the U.S. illegally as children.

Here is my personal opinion of DACA/Dreamers. They were brought in illegally, then our government under Obama
sheltered them. Due to that action I think they should be allowed citizenship. I am in no way saying his actions were right or that I agree with them. I am only saying now it is too late and they are here, they are working. They did not make the choice to come here. They were not adults. Only the 700K that are here now.

It only applies to them. It does not apply to their families. I'm not sure it is the case but if any DACA child is underage, they
would be put with foster parents and their illegal parents would face any normal illegal immigration charges and/or deportation. Or their parents could have the choice to take them back to their home country.

After it is decided on the 700K, no other children/adults would be granted this status. We also need to learn from history that we should not give "temporary" legal status. You are either legal permanently, or you're not. All it does is add to trouble later on.

I don't know much about the circumstances of how they got here as children or what exactly is their legal status now but I agree that since they are here and established, allow them permanent status. If they haven't, have them take the citizenship courses, pass them and become legal citizens. I mean, why not.

Has my ignorance shown in this post?

Whats to stop the next obama from ignoring federal law and sheltering illegals?

The I guess in twnety years we will have to give those kids citizenship as well.

The only way this should be done is with an amendment passed that says no executive offical should be allowed to ignore federal immigration law ever agian, and that wont happen.

I agree with your sentiment, and also agree we need a stop gap so this is not repeated. How that is done I don't know. It seems like it is almost guaranteed to happen next Democratic president and probably to a much larger scale.

President Trump says he'll consider Grandfathering them, if the Supreme Court rules that Obama broke the law by giving them amnesty in the first place.

Why would these children dream of coming to an evil, racist and capitalist empire like the United States? I hear all the time from my social fascist left friends that the U.S. is the worst country on the face of the earth. Shouldn't they be working toward getting these poor children out of here then? Such mixed messages. It's almost as if they don't really care at all about the human being and merely see them as political capital and manufactured power and wealth for themselves.

I have supported leniency toward DACA recipients since this issue first came up. Doesn't matter; Congress refused to act, and now the Supreme Court is going to rule. Obama's DACA program was law enacted from the Executive Branch in opposition to 18 USC §1325. It would be legal if ratified by Congress, but not when implemented solely by a President; Executive Orders cannot violate law, only clarify it. Trump already bought them time by declaring DACA over and giving six months for Congress to codify DACA... had he not done this, we would have been in this situation a few years ago. That move got the case dropped when it happened, but of course when the courts stepped in it reopened the case.

All Congress has to do is codify DACA. One vote, and no President can ever take anything from them. It would be done. But trying to make the President look bad is more important to Congress than the people who need their help, so here we are. Once the Supreme Court rules, Trump's hands may be tied.

The Democrats has their shot with DACA but open borders was more important to them, so now it’s waiting on a decision from the SC.

I agree, but Democrats won’t do it while Trump is POTUS. How do you convince them to do the right thing when Trump will get credit?

Remember that this has been going on since the founding of America... people coming here but not part of a "legal immigration plan" (my Scottish great-grandfather was one) and not becoming citizens (he never applied for citizenship) but the children they brought with them blended into society as citizens (grandparent) and their descendants are full Americans.

And it's not just Latinos. It's also people from the East and a lot of other places.

I agree with the policy that they should be grandfathered in and as immigration reform takes place.

OP you can make a great leader. Let us know how you are getting on taking care of like 15 poor dreamers. Report back with your findings and I may consider your proposal.

Maybe I would be a good leader, maybe not, but I'd tell you one thing, at least I could make a decision.

Also guess what, not only are we all already taking care of those dreamers, I'd like someone to do something to stop the bleeding. Sometimes it's about cutting your losses.

Let's face it, the chances of us sending back 700K dreamers is as close to zero as it gets.

Grandfather clause might be a good way of settling this without making it legal for other illegals to sneak in.

When they change laws there is often a grandfather clause, which liberals ignore when they harrass people who are grandfathered in. Many restaurants and businesses rely on the grandfather clause to exist, it would be way to expensive to fix things to new standards. Most people who own older homes have grandfather clauses that protect them from having to spend a fortune bringing everything up to code.

I don't see why we can't grandfather DACA people who have been here for many years. Except of course the criminals that violated more crucial laws., they should be deported.

if they have been separated from their parents reunite them where ever they are. if their parents are still here and not citizens send them to their home country.

I think most folks don't have an issue with DACA kids. I don't have a problem legalizing them. However, in return, I want that god damn wall. I want e-verify. I want illegal immigration shut down and legal immigration severely curtailed until we get this countries borders and finances under control.

Well with the democratic party around I highly suspect the flood will continue. The importation of socialism into the US subconscious has a lot of benefit to the dems and TPTB

Yes, yes and yes. Especially to the e-verify. I also think we need to add something in there about anchor babies!
