Should we ever interfere in an alien civil war?

What you ask while a very small statement is one with many profound and extreme potential situation's.

Helping a friendly side in an alien conflict could also lead to the hostile side becoming more hateful of you and also posing a much longer duration threat against you.

Helping either side and interfering may also be observed by yet more alien's whom will then watch and consider how you have interfered in the affairs of another race potentially with dire consequences as well.

What if both sides are neutral?, interference in such a situation may be for altruistic reason's to try to bring peace star trek style but it could also be for personal gain reason's such as selling arm's to both sides and prolonging there war so that you can capitalize upon it a situation which has happened all too frequently upon the earth, in such a situation one day there historian's may recognize your involvement for what it was and this would then paint you as a hostile force and a danger to them and other's whom they may then seek to shield from your influence in the future with potentially catastrophic long term implication's for your race.

But what if it was to save them that altruistic bent, would invading them and forcing both there army's to stop even if you brought in aid not then expose you to being seen as a new enemy, one which both sides may then unite against?.


In short NO not unless we were a part of a coalition of like minded nation's and acting under a strict code that all member species did abide by.


What if this alien civil war posed a direct threat to us, then we would be justified and perhaps have no choice but to interfere if we were ever in the situation and advanced enough to do so.

What if the civil war turned out to be the work of another alien force interfering in there affair's and we walked right into the trap, would that then bring us into confrontation with this other alien force.

What if such alien civil wars engineered from outside there world's were actually proxy wars between species whom were too advanced to meet in open conflict as there war would be too destructive so they let the little guy's do the fighting instead and used those minor fight's as a kind of gentlemen's card game in order that they did not enter direct and utterly devastating war with one another.


Personally I do not believe there is a blanket answer, it depend's on all the factor's as well as since we are human the humanitarian element if that applies.
How alien are they, how dangerous to us and is it ethical to become involved, if so does the ethical duty to aid the suffering in this situation - even if we try not to actually become involved in the alien conflict - outweigh our own ethical duty to protect our own people from the dangers such involvement may cause.

Of course I would like to say yes from a peace keeping and humanitarian perspective but in the real world that would most likely not be our intent, depending upon whom was calling the shot's we could be interfering because some greedy sod somewhere want's to sell both side's arm's and aid and milk them for all the profit he/she/they can make from the alien suffering and if so any other more advanced races watching us may then take a very dim view of such a future humanity.

I had serious build-up in the 'ol snark glands. The shrink suggested a healthy outlet

Our founding fathers knew more of the world and the real PTB than they let on. They chose a Republic, a constitutional republic for our form of government. Russia today also chose that form of government. Of all the forms of government we should support, it should be that, republics, not socialism, communism, democracy, or royal edicts and kingdoms.

If, and when any such society would declare they are a republic in desperate need of help, or wish to convert to a republic, then, they are our brothers in spirit.

So in answer, yes.

Maybe our animalistic "alpha" mentality trumps any technological innovation. Maybe humans make highly successful killers.

That's what I was thinking too. They've been around way more time than us so they certainly had more than one war in their history. So far, they never asked us for help, nobody likes the fat boy in the team.

It was an acute existential flu. Fever, malaise, chest congestion, self-loathing and a desire for emo music.

The visitors have likely thought of Earth as one big "civil" war because of nuclear weapons pointed all over and have already in the past, involved themselves in "our" civil war of sorts, by disabling missiles at SAC bases, and even enabled a "ready to launch" condition at a Russian launch facility, obviously to scare the crud out of people about the foolishness of even having nuclear launch sites.

Except none of those things worked to teach anyone who controls nuclear arms into getting rid of any of them, so they failed.

Maybe that is one reason they are here was to discourage the crazy ET's from planet Earth from destroying themselves or even having the threat of such a thing here.

I'm pretty sure no. We would have space technology right now if we did. The Jews are not a space faring civilization. If that was true, tech would exist in all over the place including Asia.
