I trust the officers to decide and support them having both options.

Shooting someone who could be detained by non-lethal means is punishment is it not?

If it's someone with a gun shooting at people, by all means, shoot them in the head. Saying they should not have non-lethal means at hand is whole other thing.

I'm saying mental state and drug use are excuses, nothing more. If you are posing a public threat, you should be shot by police.

So people that have had their medication changed or are experiencing side effects of psychotropic drugs should have lethal force used against them?

Just imagine the future of law enforcement devices. Soon they will have drones that shoot them with tranquilizer darts so they just lay there until the cavalry arrives. Buttons on their dashboard that will disable any vehicle. Robodogs to take over the chase while they enjoy a latte and doughnut.

I'm failing to see any reason we need to move beyond officers simply having lethal firepower. It seems like crime has gotten worse since we've started arming them with more nonlethal weapons, perhaps there's a correlation, perhaps not. I know, speaking only for myself, that the idea of dying over simply acting a fool generally keeps me from acting a fool.

That way "they" have less reasons to sue... Only less. "They" will always try to sue. LEO's will always be in the wrong.

They need better firepower.

Shrapnel grenades are the next logical evolution in personal protection.

We even have ones in pink, for the girls.

How is the cop supposed to magically know the internal mental state of each person she interacts with?

People have to be responsible for their own mental state. Should we just overlook a school shooter, if his mom calls to say he's having a bad week and off his meds?
