Ok we all agree that we have nothing but contempt for our elected officials and the system they represent.
We all sort of agree that there needs to be a certain amount of direct action/civil disobedience.

But to what end?

Are we going to unite and demand that the democratic wishes of the people must be enacted?

Are we going to unite and demand radical reform of our electoral and parliamentary procedures?

Are we going to unite and demand increased devolved power to all the regions of the UK?

Are we going to unite and demand an end to punitive austerity policies and the under-mining of the NHS, Police and Armed Services?

The simple fact is we aren't going to unite about anything.
We can't unite despite it being blatantly obvious that the political elite's etc are doing everything within their power to undermine the democratically expressed wish of the people and are playing on peoples fears and differences in order to maintain the status quo and thus their control on everything.

There was an obvious time when we should have set aside differences etc, that horse has bolted.

Forgive my cynicism and doom-laden attitude today....that's what happens after three days of sobriety!
Hopefully I'll be a bit more upbeat tomorrow.....think it'll be the pub tonight.

My guess is nothing good is going to happen.

If that seems pessimistic well look what's happened so far with regards to Brexit?

I simply don't see it as a magic wand.

It's a bandage really for a brain haemorrhage and one that we canny even seem to get the packet open.

At least in the pub when your glass is half empty the barman's apt to be there to fill it back to the brim.

I've missed it.

Three whole days and nights....feels like a month.

As usual the topics under discussion will be anything BUT Brexit....but just know that it's going to rear its ugly head at some point....I just hope its whilst I'm otherwise engaged...

Still miss the Banter Café as well.
I get the feeling CCG is around somewhere keeping an eye on things...

Well Mays now saying June the 30th.

Wonder what EU will say?

Do you think "They" realise that the end of June is prime rioting time should it all go breasts up, which it will? LoL

This summers going to be rather interesting to say the least.

Not much banter to be had on here, it's all Trump, Flat Earthers, woo-woo pothead pixies and Brexit. Lots of Yanks telling us we live in a socialist Police state with no freedom of speech, etc. Some notable exceptions, of course.

Wonder if CCG is on here watching? Miss him and the cafe. Come on CCG - give us 1 knock for yes......

Can't watch Question Time without wanting to throw a heavy thing at the TV. Muppets, the lot of them.

At least my feral rescue cat has calmed down. Follows me everywhere like a dog now - never had such a loving cat.

Anyway, the chances of the country uniting against the status quo is sadly v low. We shall see if they betray Brexit though, that would be a whole new thing.

I have got the little matter of a date in Parliament Square scheduled for March 29th.

But I plan being far too busy in the pub during the whole of May, June, July and hopefully August.

I also have some fact finding trips booked for Ostend, Amsterdam, Cluj and Hamburg along with a couple of visits to the hinterlands of Glasgow.
Also the small matter of a music festival and several concerts to attend to in the summer.

With a bit of luck it'll all just pass me by.

I miss the good old "Flat Earther" debates.

At least you can shoot down there ilk via the shadow cast by the Sun on a lollypop stick at high noon.

If only Brexit, Westminster, and the EU, were that simple to address or placate.

LoL

Hope you have a great time all the same, i miss Amsterdam, lived there for a few months back around 95.

Only place ive ever liked/respected the Police.

With a bit of luck, it will pass us all by, Brexit that is not Amsterdam.

Quite fancy Hamburg, few of my mates have been and only had great things to say about the place.

I never thought I'd ever say this but I have come to the conclusion that the British people as a whole have lost their resolve.

Oh, I don't know. It's a British trait to muddle on. We were caught with our pants down at almost all important moments in history, but seemed to come out OK, and on top.

The problem is the politics of divisiveness, such as nationalism and silo-driven politics. People have become deaf to argument and (sad but true) indoctrinated to think they, or someone else can do it better. For Christ sake, the EU is run by the Germans and French, but politicians want to prostrate themselves to them. All the whining about the Brexit "deal" but no-one has come up with a plausible alternative. Where are the balls?

Ha ha, I actually qualify for an Irish passport so if I wanted to be a complete hypocrite - which it seems is perfectly acceptable nowadays - queuing would be no problem for me.
But I'm not that much of a twat!

.....i miss Amsterdam, lived there for a few months back around 95.

I think it's the twelfth or thirteenth time I've been, great place but it's become very expensive.
Lots of stories I could tell, best told over a pint or two....certainly not on ATS!

Quite fancy Hamburg, few of my mates have been and only had great things to say about the place.

Hamburg is good....but like most places nowadays there's just too many Brits, many of them being complete arseholes.
Unlike Cluj in Romania....still very cheap, people there are incredibly friendly and it has all the other attractions, just minus the dickhead Brits.

Been to Belgium before but never been to Ostend....my mate described it as Belgium's Blackpool, not really sure what to expect then, apart from having to spend lots of money!
