Does it say it's still bad for you if it's only in 3 second intervals?

If it has to do with sex then yes, 3 second intervals is very bad.

So clearly this is a government conspiracy to dumb people down

If porn does that so does looking at a stripper or a girl in a skimpy bathing suit at the beach.

So are the brain changes beneficial or bad for us?

Two different things all together - I am not surprised you have to be told that.

What a load of nonsense. Repeated (read excessive) consumption of anything can "cause the brain to literally re-write itself". Hollywood movies and TV for example. This is just another study from those who want everyone to see human sexuality as dirty like they do, but be ok with the extreme violence and brainwashing pumped into peoples minds everyday. Just do away with the porn, and everything will be alright. If you believe that, I have some Mars real estate for a steal of a price.

Here's another updated study - very interesting reading about the Coolidge effect.

“ Dopamine is the drug of desire – when you see something desirable, your brain pours out dopamine, saying “Go for it! Do whatever it takes!” Dopamine fixes your attention on that desirable object, giving you your power of concentration… So when someone clicks and sees a new pornographic image, his lower brain thinks this is the real thing, this is the lady he must win over with all his might, and so he gets an enormous dopamine flood in his upper brain, causing a wild amount of electrical energy. This first exposure to a new female who is a potential mate wasn’t something that happened a lot to our ancestors; maybe only once in their lives; so the brain thinks this is a big deal. It doesn’t know that now the game has completely changed: it doesn’t understand that these are virtual females only; so with each new one it causes another flood of dopamine, time after time, click after click, as long as he continues. It’s a dopamine binge.” It really merits reading Mejeres’ article in full. The science my yet indistinct on the physical reactions of porn, yet he presents a solid defense, at any rate, that explicit entertainment is

1) exceptionally addictive

2) harmful to relationships

This was brought up a couple of years ago so it aint new. As usual they pick on the most emotive subject to backup their theory. But it was proven years ago (not just porn) that any pleasure giving"pastime" can lead to the same effects.
From smoking cigarettes to drinking alcohol, anything that gives the pleasure receptors in the brain a kick.
You can even bring in actual sex. Some men and women are "addicted" to sex and therefore heighten their need for it. That's real sex not porn or simulated.
Now explain to me what this mind altering does to men as well as women (or do all you women think that other women don't look at porn) does it make them commit crimes, murder, car theft, house theft or even mugging?

Porn would cause hormonal changes just like actual sex or observations do. Hormones actually alter paths in the brain, teens driven by hormones act kind of stupid, I remember those days. A person who constantly is having sex daily would experience the same mind changes in my opinion.

I really do not think that the effect on the brain would be much different. If you look at what these mind chemicals do during sex and after, it would be pertinent to associate lots of things to this article.

It has nothing to do with viewing human sexuality as dirty, but it has everything to do with viewing porn as having any type of healthy human sexuality.

For you it doesn't, because you have enough sense to look below the surface of the information being fed to you, but in my opinion, the intent of the study and article differs from your astute personal perception.

We are not in complete disagreement here. Porn is an unrealistic fantasy at best, and should be viewed as such, but to single it out while ignoring the elephant in the room (All media) is either naive or willful ignorance, considering the overwhelming consumption of socially acceptable media viewing is exponentially greater than the percentage of pornography viewed.

Meh. Call them addictions if ya want. I like my beer and porn. I'm a good father, husband, and provider. It doesn't change my relationship whatsoever.

Wonder what the percentages of women versus men view porn or was this study done using men only as are most biological studies.

its poison for the soul and the marriage. It also goes against God. Its also fake and gross.

That's open to debate, as I now couples who indulge together, and they've been happily married for many years.

I doubt God really cares. If he did, he wouldn't have made women attractive to men, men attractive to women, and women to women, and men to men. Fake, why yes, yes it is. And? Gross? Some of it is, indeed...not that I'd know anything about that.

Its not necessary. Believe it or not there were people living happily on the planet before internet porn exhisted.

Porn, in one shape or another, has been around for as long as there's been media to portray it. Internet porn is just another facet of that.

Like any self indulgent drug it will destroy your live.

Addiction of any sort will do that. Porn is hardly unique in that.

It degenerate the act of love and creation and turns it into self indulgent, animalistic, lust driven self degridation.

Some of it does, indeed. Just as some doesn't. It depends very much upon the viewer, I suppose.

I dont do drugs, drink, or own a cell phone either though.... just how I have always been.

Good for you. More power to you.
