Not to my knowledge, are you being sarcastic?
We get pretty good care in Canada, heck the mother in law just got a diagnoses with some none cancerous mass thing and it’s being removed just a few weeks after her first appointment.

Folks like you don’t complain the politicians let the medical industry and the MIC get total freedom to F____ everybody as they please.

It’s that simple...

So this modern, 21st century, the richest country ever, allows its citizens to live like crap in a system rigged by the powerful.

Ahh
Another of the many mind readers here.
I don't like the current state of the medical industry as many others here have posted.
I just choose not to blame other who don't agree with me or my specific views for solutions on the matter.
Yet you will still wonder why no one will engage in an actual debate with you about it.

It is actually that simple.....Hillary is that you?

one 87 year old needs to get a job, that means socialism for all!!!!

heck, if america had universal healthcare, he probably would never would have retired, he wouldn't have the savings he had, because it would have all went to taxes

Not socialism...realism
Human beings aren’t perfect. We live in a social infrastructure where we have to share many of the resources and the eco-system.

Despite libertarian philosophy, the reality is we are in a SOCIAL sharing environment whether we like it or not.

The Europeans, smartly, have realized this, therefore, they have erected fair systems where the people can manage health care reasonably.

In America, they’ve created a dog eat dog wild-wild west psychological environment where they deceive people with FAKE ideas of libertarianism that are as phony as a 3 dollar bill.

We live in a SOCIETY of mutual interests not a totally go for yourself world.

I’m fine with socialized medicine as long as EVERYONE pays for it and if you’re not a citizen you get no care.

I have paid taxes of every kind for decades. I have paid insurance companies for decades. I have paid social security for decades. I have been involved with non profits. Started businesses. Volunteered. Everything. I vote every election.

I don't have a nest egg. When I retire, if I can even retire or stop working, I'll probably have only a few thousand dollars saved, maybe a house paid off, but that's not for sure. Maybe a $10k in a 401k and a few other stocks and things.

I'll be in the same boat. I don't want anything for free. It's just that I've paid hundreds of thousands of dollars into the system. It would be nice to get something out of it when I'm old.

You damn right!

You figure they would at least let the retired get some of the financial burdens off them, but the system doesn’t.

I hope and pray that by the time you retire we’ll have gotten the kind of thinkers in this thread thinking differently and therefore can vote in politicians that will change the system to the advantage of the general public, not to the advantage of the rich and powerful

You can rest easy.

The money that should be spent on healthcare by your government, can be used to buy more bombs and missiles.

Did Obama and the Democrats not completely fix healthcare with OBAMACARE a few short years ago? What was the tens of billions spent on if not to give everyone in the USA medical coverage?

Tell him to save and come and retire in the UK, i will gladly go to work and earn and pay taxes so others less fortunate will benefit, and to most of you Americans that was said with ZERO sarcasm, the number of replies here with the general attitude of tough he should have planned his retirement better is really quite sad.

To Robert please consider moving to the UK, we treat people fairly and have equal access to health care, its not a perfect system but it is a system which does not reject you based on your savings or lack of.

The point is this messed up country should have UNIVERSAL HEALTH INSURANCE so people like this can live and survive after retirement.

And this is the reason it isn't happening. Because you're still calling it INSURANCE. As long as it's a business it can't possibly be universal. Insurance is a business that exists solely to exploit a weakness and to make a profit. Insurance companies are the scum of the earth and you won't fix this as long as they exist. This is not a problem that is going to go away until profit motive is taken out of the equation entirely. And good luck with that.

A better solution is to give every adult the option of voluntary euthanasia. If doctors and hospitals are going to refuse to help people for a reasonable price, those people should not be left at the mercy of the insurance mafia, who also won't help them for a reasonable price.

And if you believe insurance companies are reasonable, I will remind you of Obamacare, when they attempted to extort us all by forcing us to buy into their protection racket. There needs to be a fundamental change in the balance of power. Survival should never be a luxury or a product that you have to buy.

If we cannot force them to provide us with life saving care when it becomes necessary without leeching us, we have the right to ask that they allow us to die when we're no longer able to live well without that care. Instead of having them suck us dry all our lives paying for their garbage insurance (While they do everything they can to skimp and cut corners and prevent loss) and throwing us to the wolves when we get old.

It's a damn disgrace that euthanasia is not even open for discussion when we have been fighting tooth and nail over basic survival for years and years.

Yesterday I was thinking about the reasons people don’t support things like universal healthcare and free college. And mostly why it’s the right wing who are against these kinds of things.

Then it hit me. The right wing is historically the party of war and war hawks and building a strong military. What would happen to enlistment in the military if everyone was offered free healthcare and college? Healthcare and money for college is why most people join the military today, so giving that to everyone would seriously hurt enlistment.

I’m not saying this is the main reason for their hatred of healthcare and free college, just that it’s an important piece of the puzzle that I haven’t seen talked about.

Utter horsecrap.

Obama had the votes, and instead of forcing through something that would function, he pinched off the Obamacare loaf and left it simmering in the toilet for 6 years to bankrupt these people a little more with rising premiums and reduced benefits.

The GOP couldn't have blocked anything. They didn't have the votes.

I dunno, I've been hanging around my Republican/Trump friends a lot recently and they've really educated me on the nature of this problem and whats the correct solution.

Apparently if you can't afford medical care, you don't deserve medical care. I am told this is a self solving problem, as in if nothing is done then those who can't afford it will simply die and remove themselves from the equation. Eventually we're left with only those citizens who are 'boot strappy' enough to afford to take care of themselves.

Seriously?

How about this: i already remit 18% of my check to income tax. Find a way to pay for it out of that. Maybe less glory for our military? Maybe less foreign bribes, er....aid?

Find a solution with the money made available. But don't dig any more out of my pocket. The middle class has almost been choked out completely.

Only 18%? Minimum here is 31% if you earn above minimum wage which most people do, if memory serves. Praise the government.

Everyone I've met that supports universal healthcare would have no problem cutting the DoD's budget. Not even to pay for universal healthcare. Just in general.

First, you're preaching to the choir here personally, I'm merely parroting the arguments from my friends around the water cooler here at work.

Second, you can't take away money from the military without being a sissy yellow bellied coward who wants America to be taken over in a heartbeat, so that's a unconscionable NO unless you want to hand in your Republican card. Second, there are no government programs or prerogatives that are less valuable than people taking care of themselves, so its morally wrong to siphon money away from programs like pork barrel kickbacks and bribes and what not (those people worked hard to get in a position to take advantage of our money).

Thirdly, Free medical care is social communism, and communism is evil. Nobody should take care of someone for free or they themselves are practically a criminal in the amount of evil communism they have perpetrated unto america. The only thing that makes America the greatest nation in the universe is the fact that we don't do any of that communist crap.
