i was just going to post he penetrated the tanks with both shots.




and both .223 and5.56 will penetrate 1/2in steeel at 200yards.



wrong about this one it's 1/4 in


1in steel at 100 yds no penetration but leaves a hell a dent.




also he could have been using steel core rounds. also there was some where in the mega thread that said he tried to get tracers and some else posted that they found tracers in the room. fact is we don't know for sure what he was firing.

this is 7.62 steel core,



haven't found any steel core 5.56 yet.

i'm thinking that the soot is from the impact and the reaction of the paint which is probably a epoxy type for corrosion.

and from looking at the holes the tanks aren't all that thick 1/4in maybe 3/16in.

And the distance from room 32-135 to the tanks is apprx 2100 feet.

standard nato 5.56 55 gr is good for 600 metrs or 656 yds or 1960 ft. theres also 62gr and 77gr that can be bought off the self.
77 grain is good for * Maximum Range - 3,600 meters
* Max Effective Range for a Point Target - 550 meters
* Max Effective Range for an Area Target - 800 meters

A law enforcement official says Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock bought 1,000 rounds of tracer ammunition a month ago from a private seller he met at a Phoenix gun show.

The official says investigators searching the hotel room Paddock used as a sniper's perch found tracer rounds and a document with the name of the Mesa, Arizona, man who sold him the ammunition.

The official is involved in the shooting investigation and spoke anonymously because the official was not authorized to disclose case information.

Tracer bullets contain a pyrotechnic charge that illuminates the path of fired bullets so shooters can see whether their aim is correct.

The official says Paddock met the man in Phoenix on Sept. 9 and 10 and that the sale took place at the man's Mesa home.

The tracer ammunition that Paddock bought were .308-caliber and .223-caliber rounds.

The official did not know whether Paddock used tracer rounds during the attack.

The official declined to identify the seller.

Good resources.
I can see the similarity to both incendiary and steel core rounds that burn the paint.
I believe the fuel tanks were double walled and that's why nothing happened.

i think another reason is it was jet fuel, which has a higher flash point than av gas.

Look at the top and bottom image: Do you honestly think he could have made that shot from the 32 floor? No bloody way.
How did he sneek that bullet up under that small ledge?

Ok I can't say that I'm on board with all your theories, however you do make an excellent observation here. From the 32nd floor at a distance of roughly 2100ft - how the hell does the bullet hit the very top of the tank just under the lip/ledge?? That really doesn't seem at all possible.

Someone prove this wrong or I'm going to be absolutely convinced THIS shot was not from the 32nd floor. Just to clarify, that doesn't mean I believe no shots were from the 32nd floor.

I think you missed out on something huge, in the second video near the very top of the farther mandalay bay Delano building you see a light that starts right when the automatic gunfire starts and stops when the gunfire stops...right at about 3:51, and you can see it again at 5:15
you later see the external elevator go up to that area but there are more shots at around 11:16 but you cannot see a light there at this point
