And the Presidency isn't a position to soap box your personal grievances with pop culture or society. Man I wish you guys would care about the actual institutions and freedoms the anthem and flag represent as much as you care about those symbols.

Trump doesn't speak for me. Sometimes I agree with him, other times I don't. Whatever he says is on him. I do care about the institutions and representations about it all. You have your thoughts on it, I have mine. Yeah I get we have the right to free speech and free expression.

Just wish half of you all would grow up and just do the small part that makes other people who DON'T live in America love the way we can come together just to do small act.

It's not that hard or complicated but people want to take it and make it into their own platform to spew their own petty garbage insecurities about racism or bigotry..

Is it that hard to comprehend?

EDIT: No matter what anyone says, it will NEVER change my opinion or thoughts on this subject. End of story.

He even ran on the slogan "Make America Great Again." Something his sycophants make sure to seemingly drop in every conversation they have.

But if all these people don't think America is great doesn't that mean they think it sucks?

Where's the outrage for the President running an anti-America campaign?

He really is such an embarrassment. He could do so much for this country. However, we had NO ONE of any ability for a concensus vote and he had the mouth and the famous celebrity name.

Can anyone control his impulsive mouth? If not, he could cause WWIII. Unfortunately those capable of doing "Something" to help are worse than he is. we have made quite a mess of our government. Blame ourselves. We have become too lazy to care or pay attention. The NFL players are getting his attention more than NK., or healthcare or another presidential duties unless he has just handed it over to the power bankers, which is what I suspect.

I don't believe any Trump supporter cares for the institutions he insults when they let him get away with disparaging them just because he is upset. I'd be more open to your words here if I saw you speaking out against him when he insulted a judge during the election by implicating her race or when he insulted a Gold Star family or when he insulted McCain's service (several times now) or when he has attacked the fbi and intelligence gathering services (constantly since being president) or when he attacked the free press (ongoing spiel). So save this. I'm not buying what you are selling here.

Kneeling during the Anthem is small potatoes compared to how Trump has spat on our country's institutions and honored precedents.

I really wish you'd stop insinuating that I'm not mature because I don't agree with you. It is rather immature of you to insult me for no reason.

Sounds like you need a safe space.

There is kind of this weird dichotomy that has developed on ATS with the right vs the left where by facts and logic take a back seat to political ideology. It does not matter how "bad" or "wrong" anything Trump or his administration say or do only thing that matters is that it appeals to a alt-right ideology and so long as it does the supporters of the Trump administration and that wider ideology will defend everything he says or does with very little exemption.

Personally as I have said before I think this whole "taking a knee" protest is utter crap, its a silly distraction to the other things going on the world and until Trump tweets something else equally stupid for the left to attack and the right to defend I think this current tread of threads about kneeling will continue. Its like when he said that transgender individuals will no longer be able to serve in the armed forces, we got the usual suspects crawling out of the woodwork to defend it, just like they defended him making fun of PoW's or saying he could grope womens genitals because he is famous.

Most of the people who defend the words of Trump and his administration I believe do it, not because they think what he says is necessarily right but because they have started to see him as some sort of vanguard saviour for the right, he is almost turning into the Messiah of political right. Some might not really agree or have that big of a problem with a football player taking the knee, I am sure they wouldn't have raised a eyebrow at a athlete taking the knee in protest of Obama's drone assassinations for example. Yet because it is Trump who is being attacked they now see this as almost a political war of words between the right and the left, any attack against Trump is a fundamental attack against themselves and their own beliefs in what is now a civil war of political ideology and so the right rally to defend their new Messiah

I'm a religious person so I don't mean this in a blasphemous way. But I understand now why so many charlatans have been able to captivate, inspire, and con entire populations for so long. I used to think it was just the power of charisma, but nope. It's everything from touching on repressed desires & grievances to inspiring pride & confidence. Throw in some "locker room" talk & humor and the public will fight to the death for that "leader", regardless of the demographic, region, or time period.

From a historical perspective, this current presidency is fascinating. For better or for worse, this will be studied for a long time.

You mean with an 8th grade vocabulary instead of a 6th?

You sure it is all the way up to 6th?

Trump thrives on chaos, in an environment where he is constantly upsetting and distracting- where he is constantly defending his wounded self or craftily tweeting crap to avoid scrutiny on whatever he wants to distract from.

You can tell what scares him (and he hates the people and things that scare him) by what he diminishes. Think about that.

Women scare him. Men who serve and have served their country honorably (which he didn't) scare him, especially the gold star family. Bob Mueller and the Russia investigation scares him. Having his incompetence discovered scares him. Etc.

Right now you have 3.5 million American citizens trapped on an island with very little food or potable water, a downed power grid, massive destruction of shelter, and what is he doing? He's foaming at the mouth on twitter regarding football players peacefully protesting.

I think the football issue really chaps him because he sees HIMSELF as "America" right now - he IS the military, he IS the one in command, therefore he sees the protest as PERSONAL - he sees it as being against HIM. That is why he's striking out. That and he is distracting us from seeing all the crap going on while the Press taps after his tweets like hungry puppies.

Sigh.

There is no free speech concerning your employment period. When you are at work, you work at the pleasure of the employer. Trump is trying to change the view of the employer is what is happening. The NFL is breaking their own rule book to allow this and these 'useful idiots' are killing their own game, which is exactly the intention (of the enlightened) IMO.

Heh... thats right... keep putting out your wrists for those shackles, and for goodness, sake, never question whether a thing can be called a right, if it can ever be taken away.

It's so obvious what the Troll In Chief is doing, he even bragged about it last night to conservative fund raisers, pouring gasoline on a fire.

Trump was a promoter in WWE, a trash talk specialist, distracting and dividing the 'audience' against one another.

He's perfect for that role.

Haven't you heard NFL caters to the Football players that have a legitimate complaint about some insecurities they have about society and they want to make it known to the world via (National Anthem Protest). There is literally NO OTHER TIME THEY CAN MAKE THEIR STANCE OUTSIDE THE GAME....

I am Anti-freedom of expression and 1st Amendment and don't respect the institution - what Krazysh0t told me.
