Phil Plait of bad astronomy mentioned the potential for some risk...granted the odds of the things happening mentioned pretty low, but they aren't 0. I'm not a physicist, but I do get a sick feeling when I think there's any potential to create what I've heard "strangelets" described as being capable of doing to the planet. The same goes for what I believe are called monopoles? Again, I'm a layperson, so just not knowing and having to trust other humans with the fate of the earth..... knowing our track record as a species.... makes me nervous.

Strangelets are theoretical. If they could exist, they would have been made in cosmic ray reactions millions of years ago. Magnetic monopoles are also theoretical, but not a threat in any sense. Discovering monopoles would mostly just make certain theoretical physicists happy.

True. Failure of imagination on behalf of what are probably some pretty bright people.

I genuinely hope that by "theoretical" you mean "as likely as being granted a wish by an actual fairy godmother". And not "sure, it could exist, but if it does kill us all, it will happen so fast you won't feel a thing...so no worries"

Of course, the media and conspiracy blogs are going to latch onto the blown-out-of-proportion doom ideas, because they definitely can't report on the physics as it's actually understood and practiced...
How can intelligent people consider that entertainment? I'm sure it serves their Noble purposes. Enough of a response, good luck to you. I offered no conspiracy theories either, people can take what they want from it. My eyes and many others see the 666, nothing else to it. Believe as you wish, just as I have a right to. I'm no fan of deception and I'm not that easily entertained. More than enough said.

The logo with the supposed 3 sixes? Are you serious?
People will see what they want to see when they are bored and want to make their lives more exciting with fictitious conspiracies.
My two friends, both are PhDs in their fields, have no idea what that video was - but said they wouldnt be surprised if it was hoaxed for people just like you *by* people just like them. They read the internet, you know. They know the DUMB theories put out there - portals, black holes, time travel, satan worship. So they reckon it was a prank just to keep you entertained. But they genuinely don't know BUT do know no one was "sacrificed' on CERN property.
I only get to meet up with them rarely now as they are incredibly busy. No doubt travelling through black hole time warps to change all the Berenstein Bear books to f**k with the ME morons!
In Egyptian myth the eye was not the passive organ of sight but more an agent of action, protection or wrath.

It knowingly stands for evil even to this day and that's the point. I once managed a gas station and grocery stores, often working the registers. I wish I could show you pictures of how most people reacted to even a $6.66 total. Most would at least add or remove an item and have something to say about it. Anyway, I'm yet to hear of or see awesome tech not being abused, in my opinion. And I personally have no need to answer any questions this could potentially answer. But when do the people get a vote on anything real in our Democracy?

But that isn't real. None of it is. Symbols, etc -- its all human made and means nothing unless you attribute meaning to them.
They are not divine or mystical or spiritual -- they are just man made symbols.
Also - we're talking about the number 6 in the current English writing, yes? Not the number 6 in any other human language?
So the CERN logo, comprised of what look like the 3x English number 6's are the Devils number. And not a representation of a particle entering the circular LHC. Just want to be clear on that.
