I like my brandy. I got introduced to brandy and ginger ale. I was pleasantly surprised by that.

After a long day traversing New York City the perfect cocktail to ease the city angst is a Manhattan.

Similar to a martini it uses a strong base, in this case bourbon, with a similar proportion of modifier (sweet vermouth versus dry) and a dash of bitters which binds it together. While made with brown spirits it is still something you can drink and enjoy in the spring. I use homemade brandied cherries which I will post the recipe for as well.

The Manhattan:
3 Ounces 90 proof or higher Bourbon or Rye
    1 Ounce Carpano Antica vermouth
    3 Dashes Angostura Bitters
    1 Brandied Cherry

Stir first three ingredients with ice until very well chilled. Strain into a coupe or martini glass and garnish with the cherry. Act sophisticated.

edit on 20-5-2016 by AugustusMasonicus because: networkdude has no beer becasue he left it in the ladies room

Glad you enjoyed it. Were you able to track down the Cocchi Americano?

Brandy as the base? I can do that. You good if I give you a recipe or two that uses cognac or Armagnac?

190 proof

I only use that for making lemoncello or limecello.

After I add an equal amount of water.

Yeah. Brandy or cognac preferably. Armagnac is a bit more difficult to find around here.

Oxymoron. I put that up there with Quantum's death in a glass recipe.

I'm surprised but I can stick to cognac-based cocktails.

I will give you a few later. I'm too busy enjoying my Manhattan and the spring weather on my porch.

It's always funny to see someone on their 4th and just about mid glass they realize what they have done, but it's too late.

It's good but way too expensive for a 375 of bourbon. I would rather drink a bunch of others from your bourbon thread.

Right now I'm really enjoying Michter's.

It's strange, but I only live in a small town lol.
