Torture by proxy is alive and well.

When threats of violence and active suppression are done on behalf of those representing a faction(s) of government who are trying to stifle a candidate representing citizens, then it is indeed a violation of the first amendment. Those saying that only the government can violate free speech are not seeing the full picture.

People should never be threatened for participating in the election process. Allowing this or justifying this leads to a society where it is deemed acceptable to bully and frighten people from supporting any candidate they choose. And what kind of society would we have then?
