Army Lt Thomas Selfridge. He was flying as an observer with Orville Wright, evaluating the aircraft as a possible Army asset for the Signal Corps. They crashed during the flight after a propeller broke. He died from injuries suffered at impact.

It was part of the curriculum in Civil Air Patrol. We learned a fairly detailed history of Aviation. I have one of those weird memories where I barely remember things from a week ago, but stuff like this is stuck in there good.

There's great video of it. They landed on the Forrestal. They were testing it as a possible delivery aircraft to fly parts and people to the ship.

No need. It's designed for short field operations and came in slow as hell and used reverse thrust to stop.
