On March 17, 2011, Obama said this concerning the Fukushima disaster:

"I want to be very clear: We do not expect harmful levels of radiation to reach the U.S., whether it's the west coast, Hawaii, Alaska, or the U.S. territories in the Pacific," Obama said in the Rose Garden.
Obama Downplays Radiological Impact on U.S., Warns Americans Abroad

Thanks to Hillary Clinton's unclassified emails, we know that she received the following information when she was secretary of state just after the Fukushima disaster (dated March 12, 2011, the day after the Fukushima disaster):

Also by coincidence, I have a Radiation leak from the Fukushima reactor...Stay indoors if at all possible. There is nothing, no events, parties, sports, movies, etc that are worth getting more exposure to radiation. The stuff travels far, very far.
nukeprofessional.blogspot.com...

Does the quote above sound anything like what Obama said? Here's a reality check concerning what's actually happened:

Higher Levels of Fukushima Cesium Detected Offshore

For those who want to argue that the amounts of radiation mentioned above aren't harmful yet:

Gov’t Report: Plutonium detected in recent California air samples — “Fallout from Fukushima nuclear accident” may be to blame

I'm not surprised that the president lied when the secretary of state apparently knew better. Anyone that's paying attention should know that would happen.

What I'm surprised about is the fact that anyone can take people like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton seriously anymore.

They are not on the side of the common person. If the above doesn't prove that beyond any doubt, what would it take?

I know there are many people who claim they will leave the country if so and so is elected and it's usually just big talk.

If Clinton gets elected I will very seriously consider leaving this country. If she is elected it says a great deal about this country. There isn't any question that she is rotten to the core, how is she even a contender? It's insanity.

The thread you offer right here is unbelievable.. but
now I have to believe it, Profusion. Thanks for this, F&S!

Between you and me, Yoshi and Jeff Rense.. I've never had a
doubt things were getting trowled over in the media better
than they could ever do in Japan. But simply insane is TEN
days after Reactor 4 blew a MOX cloud to cover the whole
Northern Hemisphere-- we see an email encouraging other
countries to NOT ban the import of rice, for stocks sake...
in total disregard of possible radiation problems.
Anybody wonder why I haven't opened a can of tuna since
3/11? "Yeah, Reactor 1 blew. 100% redact it."
3/12? "No big thing."
This is stunning and I'm beginning to take Ksihkehe's side on
this. The whole planet's going to glow on whatever the dark
side is for rotation-- and the gov will call you a conspiracy nut.

Yeah, they lied about it. On the flipside just imagine the panic and chaos that would've ensued after an announcement of this type...?

Isnt that the way it starts ? "I want to be very clear any information after this will be a lie."
Just realized thats the way Nixon started his famous speech "Let me make this perfectly clear : I am not a crook" Amazing.

Still it would be better to panic a bit, then get a grip and be able to make more educated choices. This is not just even re Fukushima, this is about the general principal. Hearing the truth can make you stress like hell- but being lied to and kept in the dark always leaves one-and even a population or a hemisphere- oblivious sitting ducks.

I think you are starting to understand the seriousness of peril the US is in.

From where I sit, unless what TPTB are going to do or, might do, are for the most ultrautic reasons, I cant help but think the US particularly; and many other countries as well, are sliding into the black hole of tyrrany.

Once The Powers That Should Not Be get the US, they will then also have the rest of the western world as well; including my own country.

Its clear to me that either Oboma is a good person and has either been held hostage by TPTB and therefore almost totally ineffective in preventing this slide into tyranny and doing his best for the American people, or at worst, he has been a volunteer to their cause.

Its also clear to me that Hillary will be in the same boat for either of the same 2 reasons and therefore under her, the direction the US going in will not change but continue in a dead straight line.

The place where this line is pointing to looks like a very dark, ugly and cruel place to me.

If you see this line continuing under Hillary, then I think your right in considering getting out before they slam the door shut and spring that big steel cage over the American people.

All reactors should be "retired". The future is obvious on this issue.

It's not worth the inevitable, the risks are significant.

People are destructively selfish and care more about today's electricty than our great grand childrens ecosystem. The trade off isn't acceptable.

It would be difficult for many to leave. I'm fortunate that my wife has dual citizenship so it's really just a matter of paperwork.

I love my country, in spite of the terrible faults, and leaving it would be a last resort. Still, I won't be ignored while everybody screams for change. This election seems already set up to be stolen and there's only one state having weighed in. Disgusting. It took less than a day for shenanigans to start.

I find it interesting that the emails stopped right after her visit to Japan and then there a total blackout concerning the leaking plant. What was discussed?

And then there's a quote from one of your posted articles (Dec.15, 2015) by Ken Buesseler, a marine radiochemist with the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution:

"Levels today off Japan are thousands of times lower than during the peak releases in 2011. That said, finding values that are still elevated off Fukushima confirms that there is continued release from the plant." So....It's still leaking?!

And yet, units 1 and 2 reactors in Sendai went online back in August and now they are restarting a third reactor at Takahama plant near Kyoto.

Yes, it's still leaking, here's why:

No promises in Fukushima cleanup, director says

Risk Expert: “High risk” of nuclear holocaust at Fukushima — Plant to keep emitting radioactive materials “for a thousand years or so” (AUDIO)

Japan Professor: 1,000 years from now contaminated water from Fukushima may still be entering Pacific Ocean — It’s necessary to keep monitoring during that time

I have the same comments for both of the posters above...

I'm aware that people can rationalize the lying here. Personally, I don't agree that this kind of lying can be rationalized. The kind of lying we're discussing is the antithesis of everything that is expected from public servants. It's a total betrayal on every level in terms of the responsibilities of the leadership of a country.

Regardless of how you feel about rationalizing the lying, would you please answer the question I asked in the title of this thread:

Why does anyone trust the US government?

I am not justifying Hillary, I am offended that any sane person would even consider voting for her, I am not justifying the lies eithe
It strikes me that she is lying because she thinks the average citizen is stupid enough to believe her, about anything
She lies with abandon, she gets away with it to often
She is lying because she doesn't want anyone to know the truth, only she and her cohorts are able to deal with the truth, seemingly

Now I am of the opinion Hillary believes the average citizen is a moron

Be interesting to see if she is right

The funny thing is I think she will be the Pres soon

The forwarded email originated from someone named "Martin Edelman." Who was he, what did he actually know about the situation on the ground in Japan, and what are his qualifications to give that advice? If we can't answer those questions, the email proves nothing about anything.

ETA: Also, what does this have to do with trusting the government?

There are a couple different "Martin Edelman"s that this might be:

Martin Edelman @ Academic Title: Professor
Primary Appointment: Medicine
Secondary Appointments: Radiation Oncology
Additional Title(s): Director, Medical Thoracic Oncology

or

Martin Edelman, Ph.D. (Collins Fellow)
University of California, Berkeley

One is an oncologist, the other is a political science professor. It could be either one of them and both would be in a position to know what they are talking about in regards to Fukushima radiation and what information the US government does not want shared.

What does this have to do with trusting the government?

When you have internal information being shared within the confines of said government and that information is contrary to what is being bandied about by the same government, we have major issues. It's not like this was strategic information of value to our enemies. This information could have reduced the exposure of American citizens to the deleterious effects of radioactive isotopes which have no business being outside of containment vessels.

Instead we were (and continue to be) fed a steady diet of, "nothing to see here, move along."

Other than one small detail in your post (it was reactor 3 that had the MOX fuel), you're dead on in your observations.

Lying to the people. It's government's stock-and-trade. Remember 911? Remember the Administration and EPA saying the air was fine? There was no danger to people. And then what did we find out? That is was a bald-faced lie. First responders started dying, people in the area started getting ill. Look at Flint Michigan? Government only cares about itself. Never forget that.
