Today I noticed that some of the new members who had just joined yesterday have a "Last Visit" date of December 31st, 1969.

How does this happen? Why?

It's related to a game they did a long time ago IIRC.

Time travelers. That's the only explanation.

I wonder how it picks people and what the game was?

Does it say that on their profiles, or just on that membership list?
The list itself seems to be subject to some quirks.

Maybe they forgot their password.

It was the 60's.

Search for The 4 to find the answers you seek.

(I think it was from that game. It was a long time ago.)

Yeah, well, just do some searching and something should ring a bell.

(Again, if it's the right game I'm remembering.)

But why would an old game have an effect on new members, as the opening post claims?

Exactly. My searching skills are failing me.

It's probably a glitch. JavaScript and several programs calculate date starting from 1st of January 1970 (31st of december 1969 in American timezone). Perhaps some system upgrades to ATS have inadvertently reset the visit date back to 0 - that is, back to 31st of december 1969.

Honest answer? Gremlins.

I think it's just a wonky bit of code that got left in from one of the site iterations, something benign that would be more difficult to fix than to just let stay in. Kind of akin to why some of us older members have millions of stars.

The forum you seek is on ATS, but yet not on ATS.

If someone joins, but has hasn't logged in yet, their "last visit date" is null.

As swanne mentioned, that the result of a null or zero entry for the date being formatted for output.
