The OP article looks like a remake of The Paranoid Style in American Politics by Richard Hofstader published in Harper's Magazine in 1964, which I read back when I thought conspiracies were some thing special.

When you think about it, all conspiracies are just normal politics.

so this is how he sees it - "what I kind of call" - you really should have stuck to the facts - it probably would have supported your point well enough, but now you are shown up as falsely manipulating information for partisan ends - something I suspect you get rabid about when your "opponents" do it!!

Exactly. The post-Depression era. FDR put millions of people to work. The Civilian Conservation Corps.... that is actually a fact.

FDR confiscated American gold, and silver from the 'masses', and that wasn't good enough from Fort Knox.

Then he rounded up all them evil Japanese-Americans(funny there weren't hypenated American names back then) I smell a 'conspiracy'.

And now they own the night,

and know every purchase, every phone call made, every book read--and which pages lingered over, and all TV series watched very week etc...

An interesting point about how The Gold Reserve Act may actually be what got the U.S. GNP higher during the mid 1030s, rather than "fiscal" policy.....

Between 1933 and 1937 the GNP in the United States grew at an average rate of over 8 percent. This growth in real output is due primarily to a growth in the money supply M1, which grew at an average rate of 10 percent per year between 1933 and 1937. Previous held beliefs about the recovery from the Great Depression held that the growth was due to fiscal policy and the United States’ participation in World War II.
