Today (Aug 21, 2015), the U.S. Dow30 dropped more than 500 points.

The Dow was at 18,000 a month ago and today it closed at 16,459.75 !!!!

What the Hell is happening?

Oil is down too I think and maybe other markets and commodities.

The meltdown is starting and is anybody really all that concerned?

US stocks tumble on global slowdown fears

NEW YORK (AP) — Growing concerns about a slowdown in China shook markets around the world on Friday, driving the U.S. stock market to its biggest drop in nearly four years.

The rout started in Asia and quickly spread to Europe, battering major markets in Germany and France. In the U.S., the selling started early and never let up. Investors ditched beaten-down oil companies, as well as Netflix, Apple and other technology darlings. Oil plunged below $40 for the first time since the financial crisis, and government bonds rallied as investors raced into hiding spots.

W.T.F. !!

I have been watching it all day now. Down by 531 points total. Oil is taking a bashing at only $40 a barrel now. China's market is getting beat up too. No idea where it will stop. They knew Apple stocks were going to go down and they did, over inflation of them. Hold on to your butts and we shall see how soon this all ends. Could be over by Monday,or could keep plunging. End of the worlders are screaming to pull all your money out of the banks. That is all we need is some fanatic to panic those that follow them and start a run on the banks. Geez.

Just was looking for a thread on this. Why is this not the top story on ATS today? 10% correction in the market as of today for August and this is not headlining ATS?

WTF is right!

Been following it all morning and half the day at another site, and it's of course big news.

Has everyone left this site?

But #Something!

Rome is burning. It has been for quite some time.

We're just starting to feel the heat is all.

Actually at the other site I visit, which is one of those End of the worlder sites, I saw no one saying to pull all your money out. We were all talking about the crash that is coming and looks to have started this week.

certainly there was mention of stocking up, but that's not a crazy thing at this point, that's just common sense.

They're more concerned about what some random talk show guy in Iowa said. Sad isn't it?

This has been in the works for a long time now, and I'm not surprised. But, it's not like there is much we can do about it. Husband has done his best to insulate his 401(k) against it, and that's about all we can do at this point.

Almost 900 points in two days. 358 points on Thursday and 530 points today. China lost 3 trillion in a short time. When something like that happens you are going to feel an effect. I not sure where this is going but am keeping my eye on it. We may be in for one hell of a ride or one hell of a correction being how the market seemed a little over priced to me.

But you can feel it when the aftermath sets in.

I didn't think I'd feel 2008 ... until I lost my job when the people who had money to lose lost it and stopped patronizing the business I was employed by frequently enough to justify my employment.

You are wrong there. Just look to 2008. that collapse took jobs and companies galore. The next crash is supposed to make that one look tame. Think no government aid....

You can be poorer than poor.

don't really have one of them critters either.....
I'm wondering if that isn't what happened, too many buyers stopped buying-- you don't buy if you don't have money, and they are finally realizing that the whole thing is rippling down to even those countries that manufacture along with those that provide the natural resources.

isn't this global economy just grand?? we start with a mild cold and well by the time it's all done and said the whole world has Pneumonia.
