The future economy needs more scientists, doctors, nurses, mathematicians and engineers. What it doesn't need is Liberal art grads, more lawyers and people that have a pieces of paper saying they are good at painting pretty(or not so pretty ) pictures or women's studies majors.

Well isn't that the crux of the problem? A ignorant student is told by a university that their "pieces of paper saying they are good at painting pretty" is worth 100k on the street as soon as they graduate, just sign here and pay us 60k. The student finds out after graduation that their degree is worth head fryer at BK, and so instead of complaining the university hoodwinked them they blame it on businesses for not giving them their 100k a year job.

The reason universities have all these crap degrees is so that the people who are not capable of actually attaining a hard degree can still pay them for a worthless one instead of maybe looking into a high quality trade/craftsman type career.

Its all for profit, just like our healthcare system, and they WILL get their high profits while not really caring if it comes out of someones pockets directly or through tax subsistence.

Worked out fine for them when they robbed us blind and didn't redistribute. Meh...just wait until they get the rest of you, and they will. Then don't come whining.

Sanders lost me even before he announced his candidacy.

OK. Why the thread then?

Any Republican candidate is a better option that anyone offered on the left.

Ah, that's why. He must be doing OK to be attacked.

I figure about the only things they're going to find to attack him on is his age (check), his religion (in this ahemcoughcough Judeo-Christian nation), his accent (or his no...sleep...till Brooklyn!), or his hair (not nearly as gnarly as Trump's).

Its the same system here.

University will charge up to £9k (Circa $14k) a year for some worthless piece of paper in some arts. end of a day unless its Law or History a BA is worth F all in the job market and even then you need a good score in History or law at a good university like Oxford or Cambridge. But due to the low cost of providing such joke degrees they make a massive profit margin.

A Bsc in a Science or engineering however will net you the good jobs even with a 2:2 from a mid range university but those degree cost the university's the most money as the facilities suck up the most cash.

Universities going privatized and getting in bed with the predatory lenders is a big factor here too.

Costs aren't as high and what they're charging. It's for profit, and in my opinion, like the (fundamental/basic) medical industry, should not be.

I'd wager Netanyahu would disagree with you about Sanders being a 'friend' of Israel.

Your saying it's doesn't change what he said.

Oh, by the way, He's running for president and needs more than State support to win. His 'neutrality' towards Israel went the wayside when his ambitions grew, not anything Israel did....

Ilk? Did you bust a vein thinking that one up? I just made an observation. Bernie's getting negative press. That means he's seen as a threat.

Your ilk? Hate much?

According to all the polls your side isn't doing so well, is it?

The polls? LMAO. When have they gotten it right?

Hate? Not really. I do have a compulsion to point out 'spin and rinse' when it's obvious and hasn't been commented on.

The fact is, I do not know the level of honesty of Sanders-or any other candidate, for that matter- I will point out how the pro-Sanders crowd point to his integrity and honesty and my retort is he's using the same tactics as the previous Democrat candidates. Those tactics rarely solve anything and when they do, it's at the price of individual liberty with increased debts passed to our future generations.

Yes, both sides. Still, far more on the left.

I predicted in a thread a bit back that "free university" would be one of the carrots the left could offer...it had been trial ballooned by Hillary, after all.

I also title the thread the Democrats would win in a land-slide....

We get the gov't we deserve.

Actually, ilk was used more often in the day and it suits many of the threads. I use it fairly often.

Did you look it up and get it defined yet? Glad to assist in your continuing growth....

I already covered the negative press point quite well, I think.

Also the thread does reflect my 'observations', as you say.

Look them up yourself. There's plenty of data out there about the A.C.A. act which shows the right to lien the estate of those that owe the gov't for their services/fines in the event of their demise.

Do you really need egs. of "keeping your doctor" or your company provided healthcare plans? Personally, I'm, forced onto Medicare whether I want it or not. That's just me. I know a nice young lady who's Provider-A.C.A. supplied-is harassing her for all the information on her children...far beyond medical records. Those two are personal knowledge. Far more out there if one bothers to look....

Oh, here's a nice one. I'm good to age 67 on Medicare. At that age a committee looks at my life expectancy and evaluates whether I merit major services...

You DARE suggest freedom of choice isn't lost??

So back on subject...

So Sanders is suggesting paying for a "for profit" (lets say lots of profit) system with tax payers money. Its a lot like Obamacare that has no problem paying for that 200 dollar aspirin...

In both cases there is no desire to change the systems to make it cheaper so that taxes are not needed. Case in point..

My son a few years back got pink eye on a 4 day holiday weekend. My only choice was to take him to the emergency room to get someone to say "yep it is pink eye here is a perception". That would have been most likely 800 bucks paid to the system through my insurance, and a 6 to 8 hour wait. I was told of a clinic ran by nurse practitioners with a doctor on call. The deal was they only took cash... Well we went there and saw a nurse and got a prescription within 20 minutes and I paid the whole bill, 20 bucks, out of pocket.

As I said, if college cost 20,000 for a 4 year degree no one would need taxes or free schooling.

Outstanding rebuttal. Well thought out, brilliantly articulated. I'm impressed.

More of a pipedream than a rebuttal.

Let's just take solace in agreement that Bernie has all the attributes of a snake oil salesman.

yup, higher wages for people that do the actual work, rather than the tax breaks for billionaires that make money off of them....yup, pure snake oil....

Oh, ideologically it's great...

Realistically, it's lip service Jimmy.

If it happens I'll apologise to Bernie & his fanbase.

If not, well, I won't be as unpleasant to say I told you so...
But I'll be thinking it.

Laugh all you want at the 'failing health' care system. It was working fine for me. I watched STREAMS of Canadians coming down to northern Washington St. for services they couldn't get in a timely fashion in Canada.

Obviously, you don't know what your talking about. That much is clear.

As far as the concept of "free university" goes anything offered as 'free' from this gov't is disingenuous. A LIE. Simple truth no matter your spin on it.

I don't care for Bush either. As far as Trump goes, I'd give him a chance say in a domestic, economic role, perhaps a Cabinet position, but I have serious reservations about an international role as President, a little too far outside the box for my taste, consistency and predictability are key in my view of it.

Yes, I'd take either over a socialist, any time.
