The pro-Russia separatist regions just named Crimea as a part of Ukraine

The pro-Russia separatist regions of Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) and Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) just named Crimea as a part of Ukraine in the draft amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine.

That doesn't jibe with claims made by their backers in Moscow.

From the document (translated into English by Business Insider):

"Article 133. The administrative-territorial system of Ukraine contains : Autonomous Republic of Crimea, some regions with special status in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, provinces, districts, cities, districts in cities, towns and villages.

Ukraine is composed of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, some regions with special status — the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, Vinnytsa, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, Transcarpathian, Zaporizhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Luhansk, Lviv, Mykolaiv, Odessa, Poltava , Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Kherson, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, Chernihiv regions, cities of Kyiv and Sevastopol."

Asked to clarify, an LNR envoy, Vladislav Deynego, said that it's not their place to "bring changes to the constitution of Ukraine regarding the presence or absence of Crimea," according to Lenta News.

"We are acting exactly within the borders of the Minsk agreement. In the Minsk agreements, there was no mention of Crimea," he added. Consequently, he added, the constitution's draft only reflects the changes with respect to the separatist regions, DPR and LNR.

The interesting thing here is that by labeling Crimea as part of Ukraine, this document directly contradicts Russia's annexation of Crimea with special forces in March 2014.

Talk about a left turn..

I am curious how Russia is going to respond to this. I am also curious as to why the self proclaimed republic would even venture into this water.

Calculated move or is it possible there are more issues between pro Russian rebels and Moscow than what's publicly known.

Yeah no they didn't.

Russia invaded and occupies Crimea. We know this because Russian forces seized Crimea before any votes occurred. Knowing that the rebels actually got it right this time with regards to Crimea.

Also, lets not forget, there have always been Russian soldiers in Crimea because of the Russian Naval base. Don't try to make it out to be something it isn't. The vast majority of Crimean people wanted to again be part of Russia. Just accept it man! It's the trueth.

That is total BS and you know it. Western media does not write history as much as they would love to. The Russian troops were already in Crimea long before anything happened in Ukraine. If more came during the rebel take-over of Ukraine then prove it was more than was legally allowed by treaties between Russia and Ukraine. It was likely under the maximum allowed before the rebels took over and then Russia boosted the numbers to the max in lieu of the fact that there is crazy mofos shooting at the Ukrainian government, leaving Russian military vessels exposed to threats.

Do you seriously just ignore that fact? Do you hope that nobody knows about it or something? tisk tisk tisk.

Actually no they were not present already and that is a fact and no amount of your denials will change that fact.

Secondly the Russian troops that were present were restricted to their bases per the agreement, which they violated. When the non insignia troops moved into Crimea they again violated the agreement, and ukraines sovereignty.

Since you are ignoring facts maybe you should actually research the agreement between Ukraine and Russia. You will find Russia violated the entire thing.

Let me help you out -

Russia violated the agreement in multiple areas.
Russia sent in military units with no insignia.
Armed Russian troops spread out across the countryside.

Russia invaded and illegally occupies Crimea.

Now how about you educate yourself on the agreement and stop with the failed argument you and others try to make about the agreement, which are in fact wrong.

If you think you can make a legal case and take Russia to court then be my guest. Do you have proof that those guys with no insignia were Russian? Seems they beat the law by breaking it. Quick thinking isn't always perfect but hey, Russia has Crimea, probably going to get Ukraine back soon and here you are trying to convince people what? That Russia did something wrong? Those agreements were writren to ensure the intrests of both parties, so if something happens outside of those agreements that put Russia's interests at risk then as far as I and clearly Russia was concerned... null and void at the time due to site conditions. Happens all the time in contract law

RT - Putin acknowledges Russian military serviceman were in Crimea

Russian President Vladimir Putin has acknowledged that Russian troops were present in Crimea before the referendum and argued that was necessary to let Crimeans make the choice on the future of the region.

The armed men in military uniform without insignia, dubbed “the little green men” or “the polite people,” who were present in Crimea before and during the referendum there, were Russian troops, Vladimir Putin acknowledged speaking at a Q&A session with on Thursday. The president said he never concealed the fact from his foreign counterparts, and explained to them that it was the only way to ensure the referendum on the region’s status would be carried out peacefully.

“Crimean self-defense forces were of course backed by Russian servicemen,” Putin said. “They acted very appropriately, but as I’ve already said decisively and professionally.”

Putin had to touch upon the Crimea topic multiple times throughout his Q&A session. He emphasized that Russia did not acquire Crimea by force, but created, with the help of its special forces, conditions for Crimeans to decide upon their own future.

and no nothing occurred that required a Russian invasion and illegal occupation of Ukrainian Crimea. Russia would not be taken to court over Crimea. As a matter of fact Russian action violated Chapter VII of the UN Charter and as such Ukraine has a lawful claim of self defense. Its also the same reason the UN and just about every country on this planet don't recognize Russias illegal annexation.

You really need to stop grasping at straws.

What do you mean "nothing happened"?? The wild f_€kin west just invaded Ukraine.

It still was not an occupation. Ukraine could have sent their troops in but if I remember it Ukrainian commanders were quite warm to the unmarked Russian troops. The Ukrainian government was in such disrepair they couldnt organize their own forces. It was a good thing Russia was there in a t8me of such vulnerability and to ensure the safety of the Crimean people. I remember the footage from that first day and the people of Crimea were not put-off by the soldiers at all in fact everyone looked very content going about their daily lives.

If Russia was not there the rebel violence in Kiev could have caused harm to peaceful Crimeans that wanted nothing to do with the Rebels.
