Wow thats pretty crazy. Hey man thanks for sharing. I was so sure it was brown and blue but TJ said white and gold. I have to get my eyes checked.

I'm slightly color blind but to me that looks like a white dress with gold trimming. But it's not really white, there's a clear tint of blue/purple, almost like it's under a fluorescent light or something.

Well outside of the colorization from the lighting sources, one could take it into Photoshop, or similar program, and click around to get various hexadecimal color values to determine the definitive answer..

The question what color is this dress.

Not what color is the photo of this dress.

Right?

Hence my answer.

GF asked me what colour the dress was...

Of course, I replied blue and black, because it is...

However, she said its white and gold...

Now Twitter/Facebook and many other places (I'm guessing) are currently in a massive partisan divide over Dressgate...

With thousands of people saying its white and gold...
& thousands saying its blue and black...

Lmao I don't know how anyone could see black. Maybe because the whitish/blue color is so bright it overwhelms the gold trimming and makes it look almost black for some people. But it clearly is gold, I used a color inspector to check the actual RGB values.

Asked husband: he said purple black and he's slightly color blind. Also, that yeah the picture quality is pretty bad so that can mess with ya. Would assume that if your color blind or slightly then it comes off as blue and or purple and black. Men have a different color spectrum, said to be more limited than women. Wonder how the male to female viewing of the image ratio donates different results.

ETA dress gate haven't heard of it.

Husband is the most color sensitive person I know.

He said he wants to say it's some sort of bluish color, maybe gray, with what looks like gold or orange.

It's blue and black people...

We are winning the vote by a large margin!!!

For the above posters, I'm asking what colour you see the dress as...
That is all...

I've seen the original dress on a clothing website...
There is no doubt it is blue and black...

But we're specifically focusing on the photo in the OP.

Carry on...

Of course you realize that seeing it in person does not take into account the filtering that is done by your photo and various monitors people are seeing it through?

I would say it's a very light blue, easily mistakable for white. My concern is how some people think that gold is black. I mean it is CLEARLY gold, there's no way to mistake it... and examining the RGB values conclusively proves it is gold.

The dress appears white and gold (with poor lighting) in the original photo, but NOW... it's blue and black!

I clicked around. Most values were in this range. Grayish blue. Some values more gray than others

The light sources could be changing the actual color though.

Yep...

But me and the GF were looking at the same photo on just her phone...

She is adamant she cannot see how people are seeing blue and black...

Alternatively I can't see any reason why people would think it's white and gold...

As I said, I thought she was taking the mick.

But what you say can surely be a factor in the worldwide spectrum.
Duly noted!

Gold and white. But the white has a pinkish tone at some places. Could be different color settings on our computers also giving differences between our answers.
