gee thats a lot of damage for a 4.7 quake! Looks more like a M6 type.
Maybe they just don't know how to build roads there.

Japan is up to date to lunch time today NZST (midnight 24th UTC)
24th is automatic (NIED)
23rd is a mixture of reviewed and automatic (JMA and NIED)
I will attempt to keep it running daily like that, substituting with the fully reviewed data as it becomes available, (usually takes 1.5 days)
Thanks to those who looked at it already, the numbers are great, 255 last I looked, that is 5 more in less than a week than Wordpress got in 2 years. Blogger gets more traffic.
I have added the link to my signature.

Its early morning NZST, having a bit of trouble uploading images on Google (so whats new?) for my Japan update, but it could be the northern hemisphere (5:30pm) having heavy online traffic as people finish work and the Internet gets hammered. We get that here too at 5-6pm, Internet is nails pace.
Anyway ATS is working fine, so I've uploaded a couple of animations, to help readers understand how the NIED/JMA updating system works.
The days I show are UTC days, not JST days

This animation shows the progression
1. from automatic (Preliminary Catalog by the Hi-net Automatic System) to
2. reviewed and automatic (JMA Unified Hypocenter Catalog and Preliminary Catalog by the Hi-net Automatic System)
3. fully reviewed (JMA Unified Hypocenter Catalog)
the Automatic (NIED) data tends not to show the Ryukyu Isl area, but that pops in on review later.
as it says on the Navigation page, another indictation on the Home page that data is only preliminary (automatic), is the Image maps do not have the lines of the Tectonic Plate Boundries.
1. no TecPlateLines, nothing in the SW
2. no TecPlateLines, SW showing (about half a UTC day has been reviewed)
3. TecPlateLines and SW showing (a full UTC day has been reviewed)

generally the numbers go down, as far as magnitudes a lot of 1's drop below that threshold, but not always, as in the case of the 25th
that NEAR TORISHIMA IS (18/211 - Southeast Of Honshu. Japan) 5.4 went up to 6.1
another animation of the progression of the 25th( still at reviewed and automatic at this point in time)

1. no TecPlateLines, nothing in the SW
2. no TecPlateLines, SW showing (about half a UTC day has been reviewed)

got the images on, shut down Firefox and opened again, images had loaded to Picasa, but they weren't loading to Blogger.
Firefox and Windows has been giving me grief lately. Damn Updates screwing my computer up, first I lost my ability to connect by wi-fi, had a technican look at it, he said it was a Windows update and to let a few more Windows updates go through and try again, have had 4 updates in 3 weeks, still broken.
Then Firefox threw some crappy Hello thing at me, looks like a messaging app. When that happened I couldn't even get Firefox itself to open, did a Restore and then Kaspersky wouldn't work. In the end I had to delete Firefox and install it again. kaspersy the same.
Damn, whats with the forced app stuff that these software co's put up that wrecks your system?
Apple might get a try out next time I need a new computer.

M 6.0 Earthquake, 32km N of San Juan, Puerto Rico Link

An earthquake with magnitude 6.0 occurred near SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico at 14:09:15.00 UTC on Feb 27, 2015. (This event has been reviewed by a seismologist.)

Some tweets on that link say there was no earthquake, so who reviewed the data and what was recorded?

Something's up in the Americas. Nothing big at this time but active. In a widespread area in a short period of time. Also, I may want to ignore the map, but I've also noticed a slight uptick overall worldwide. I'm not going to explain anything. This is not a prediction. I just want you to watch close for the next little bit and we may see something big.

I am not as good a prognosticator as the good old new farmer's almanac. (There is also an Old Farmer's Almanac) They correctly predicted the bad winter in eastern america.

Interactive Earthquake Maps

Well its March the 1st (here) and sure enough all my earthquake maps created since 2009 on Google Classic Maps have gone blank.
seabreeze.wordpress.com...
45to47south.wordpress.com...
eqarchives.wordpress.com...
eqarchivesj.wordpress.com...

To reformat and reload 6 years of work is going to take ...........another 6 years?
I'm even having doubts about Open Street Map too, I started redoing the "Significant (M7+)" maps again on OSM, I picked the "OSM Road" tiles for the Global Map background as it shows the oceanic ridges and plateaus without being too dark (like Satellite on Google), but this morning when I open the page the background is blank! You can select other background tiles, but not Roads, ?x#^%$*?
I was using the French version of OSM to create the maps, now I'll probably have to use the English version and just use the basic OSM background tiles.
Luckily I have only done 9 years so far
significantearthquakes.blogspot.co.nz...

The new NZ 2014 and 2015 and NZ 5+ earthquake maps are working OK as the map is from NZ Topo, not Google.
Unfortuneately it only works for NZ with the map already there first up when you select a day.
It loads the icons for for Japan, but you have to use the slider or click the "map" or satelitte" buttons and then click an OK popup to get the background to come up.
Damn

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the 96, 814 visitors who have read my various blogs over the years, I'm sure a lot came through ATS Fragile Earth.
These are the Google Maps Gone Blank visitor totals as of today
EQArchives, 5,443
NZ 2009-2015, 26,236
Cook Strait 2010, 2,596
NZ Swarms, 3,675
NZ2008, 8,028
NZ2006, 32,201
NZ 2007, 5,042
GSAIM, 1,636
Significant EQ, 15,047
VolcanicTremor, 4,097
Japan, 256

And I'd like to welcome and thank the 5,126 readers who have come on and read my "new" map pages started since Jan 2015

NZ 2015, 1,191
NZ 2014, 2,792
Significant EQ, 422
Japan, 721

The one survivor from way back (2006) that is still going strong on Blogger is the NZ 5+, with 39,047 visitors (numbers not counted in the previous talleys)

One big flop was Chile, since 2012 it has only had 19 visitors!!!

Seems to have gone quiet again

I have got a routine going with Japan now,
on a normal day when I have time I can do 2 updates from NIED, morning and night, if I sleep in then only 1.
So there will be 3 versions of the map each day, if I have time a 4th, an update of the Preliminary/Automatic
1. Preliminary/Automatic 1(tectonic plates not shown), not many quakes showing, maybe about 50
2. Preliminary/Automatic 2(tectonic plates not shown), not many quakes showing, maybe about 160
3. Reviewed and Automatic data (tectonic plates not shown) more quakes showing but not all, maybe 140-160
4. The full JMA reviewed data ( map thumbnail shows the tectonic plates) and which will have the markers showing for the southern Ryukyu Islands area, maybe 150-300 depending on whats happening.

japanquakes.blogspot.co.nz...

edit: as each map thumbnail is updated I'm deleting the image from Picasa, so anyone who wantsto keep them needs to grab them when they are on. The full size GIF image is on each page, below the main interactive map. Its only 200x200 pixels, the original was 300x300, but I reduced it to save data space.

Oh BTW, 10,557 quakes above M1 confirmed by JMA for Japan so far in 2015

2014 M7+ has been OSM'd
significantearthquakes.blogspot.co.nz...

what a misson! Nearly 2 hours work figuring out the best way to transfer the data.
I didn't make any CSV files after 2010, they were all created using Google Earth, so I have to go through each event one by one and alter the html in the properties, take out the code for bold and line breaks because OSM doesn't format html code, it shows all the code shown in the properties.
At least pre 2010 I have the CSV files, so can create a new KML with the correct description for the popups.
OSM doesn't recognise KMZ files, only KML.

Damn Google
edit on 03u616115 by muzzy because: (no reason given)

the popups on 2014 are still a bit of a mess, didn't quite nail it perfectly.
edit on 03u616115 by muzzy because: (no reason given)

and the way the popup springs back to the top of the i-frame is a PITA, best viewed full screen to get around that.
