I've put a man made nest for great horned owls in a friends spruce tree where several have been hanging out. I've installed high def live cameras on it as well. I don't expect the owls to settle into the nest until late winter and they wont have young until around spring so don't expect much action until then. Also, they wont be bothering to switch to the night cameras when it gets dark until the owls start using the nest. So for now, at night, it is just a blank image with sound. Be forewarned that there is a very loud train that goes by several times a day/night.

Here is a link to the cameras:

You might hear the owls hooting and screaching nearby tonight. But if you check it out when its light out don't be too hard on my nest building skills.
edit on 18-11-2014 by CraftBuilder because: I smell really nice. Oh, and because of typos.

It's a pity that owls are rarely seen in person. Nice video.

I have heard plenty in our area. One night, heard at least three, possibly 4-5, hooting at one another in the trees. Very cold winter night. Heard and seen others as well, though not often.

It would be cool if you could get some pics, but I know they aren't easily seen.

Owls are just adorable and beautiful creatures!

I've had some lovely times in the wilds with everything from burrowing owls to barn owls, little hoots in the darkness and one or two screech owls. Such wonderful nocturnal guardians! Love love love love love owls!

Has to share a cuteness!

I wish I could! The ones I heard were barely seen a few times flying across the road from tree to tree. The one time I might have gotten a great pic, of one sitting on a post late one night, I didn't (of course) have my camera. Always seems to work that way.

You must always have a camera with you. What if you saw a UFO or something? Sheesh! LOL
