A society where robots do all the work would be bad news for people.
First, the government would decide that since people don`t need to work anymore that they don`t need an education.Only the elite few would be given educations so that they could maintain the robots and continue developing new technologies. The government won`t continue spending hundreds of millions of dollars a year educating people who have no need or use for an education.
people without educations will be easy to control and manipulate,in fact most people would become obsolete.
there would be no need for large populations of people, people would become useless eaters who provide nothing.
It wouldn`t take long for the rich and powerful to realize that having a bunch of useless uneducated people polluting the planet is wasteful,so lets get rid of them.
Basically we are now just tools that the rich and powerful use to do work for them and provide for them,if they can replace us with robots then they have no use for us anymore.

The interesting thing will be at what point do they stop getting rid of people?
Will it reach the point where only the 1% are left and the upper 1% decide that they have no use for the lower 1% and they start cannibalizing each other?
I don`t mean cannibalizing in the strict sense of the word,I mean class warfare, the upper 1% trying to get rid of the lower 1% and taking everything they have and vice versa.

It's probably already been said but sexbots already exist. They're just small and hand held and use AA batteries. a reply to: neoholographic

The elite don't want to maintain anything. That's what they have employees for. They don't want to develope new technologies. They want to use them . People will educate each other. Like they always have. reply to: Tardacus

I should start saving up for my Cherry 2000!! Woo Hoo..

Im definitely one of those who feel restrictions should be placed on AI and its ability to think for themselves..

Without getting into a huge debate, I'm of the mind conscience and memory operate on a higher plain. Our minds more along the lines of TV sets. Self aware AI is nothing more than building a sophisticated enough receiver to tune into the proper frequency. If it proves to be so. Who knows how many disembodied intelligence may make use of these new type of robots.

An intelligence without a soul is a terrible thing.

Future sexbots

There should be some alarm bells ringing when people choose something artificial to express their emotions and choose a life living in fantasy. Being unsecure dating in real life and a "fear" of being turned down in relationship, its all growing up to adulthood. So will we become "grown" up babies who get all they want without really trying to make a difference.

If you thought WALL-E movie was creepy.. it gets creepier.

Soon we will have our babies from factories too.

I think a couple of things might have to happen. A cashless society where these robots makes things for us and everything is basically free because robots and 3D printers make everything.

It will take one hell of a economic and societal revolution for that to happen. When the industrial revolution came, people thought the same thing. They thought the economy would improve for everybody and that abundance would occur for even the lower classes. Indeed, we could have done that but, instead, it was monopolized even though it could have brought an end to poverty in large segments of the population.

This is the same. It sounds great (and it is) but it will also be monopolized if there isn't a change in structure. Right now, we have the resources to feed, clothe, and house every person on the planet but we don't. What makes you think that the top-tier corporate owners of our planet would be cool with letting everybody have their own means of survival and (gasp!) even a means to thrive?

Honestly? I think it will be like you envision this time. But that's only because we won't stand for anything less. It's the same reason we don't promote cheap and (near) free energy; it funnels off power and revenue from the people who currently own it all. There will be a revolution on such a grand scale that our grandchildren will marvel at the barbaric capitalist monopoly economic structures we have today much like we marvel at early American slavery and witch burning.

as to the employment side of things , they said that with the introduction of computers people would have more free time to pursue their hobbies etc but as we all know it did not happen .

Well thats because they never stopped introducing fees, never ended property tax and never stopped charging rent.
Increased efficiency in tech allows us to be freer but the elite are too used to threatening us if we don't slave for them

And so we have continued inflation, continued flat taxes, and less jobs.
The problem is they dont want us to be free, cause when we're free we start to think and get ideas and realize that we've been continually taken advantage of

Only the EXTREMELY wealthy will be able to afford them!

ever heard the word bobos?

i heard about bobos some years ago when wearing a brand name of clothing or shoes which was either never heard of or had not been considered popular, then you were wearing bobos. thoughts on what a robotic being similar to a human are misinterpreted i think because humans think of a robot as what looks like a human operating by wires, components and computer chips is a robot but i dont think that is how it is today not to mind the year stated. to have the internet and computers as we do and robots as it seems we dont tells me what seems to be does not make sense.

my thoughts are based upon the more you search the more you find. like the universe for instance or simply digging a hole. think about it this way, when a human being first experienced pain, humans found out about pain. when a human being first received a wound of sort , lets say a cut. the human being learned there is more to the human being than what is seen. the human being learned about flesh and blood. then the human being learned about organs and decomposition which led to the purpose of the organs and eventually human beings learned about cells which seemed to be the ultimate discovery until learning about the different cells which led to the ability to create cells which is where it is thought we are now.

to create a cell does not make it a cell though and i dont mean to clone which is entirely different i think. calling a human cell created by a human is like calling a toy car a car but it isnt a car. so what we have today i believe are lots of robots or bobos if you will that are active and think they are humans but are actually robots created by artificial cells which can be activated to think like , look like and even believe are who the robot has been activated as by simply consuming the actual being being copied. the robot does not feel pain though and is used to activate numerous robots in a similar fashion as in being partially consumed maybe, lets say a calve for instance which is regenerated almost immediately with surgery maybe.

the point is dont think for a second there isnt robots like you think there might be in the future because when you first stood as a baby and fell on your ass you had no idea really now did you?

Human interaction will be a thing of the past soon. As it is right now, people would rather text than talk...which does not allow for intonation and nuances, which takes the context from the conversation at times. This could be a good thing in some ways....but I think the bad implications outweigh the good. I want a real person...I would never go there.
