I think amatuers who want to fly in the face of experienced

professionals ( law enforcement ) from behind a computer?

Really people? Like these cops aren't journeymen enough to say,

no foul play was involved? Get a grip and realise that the cops

are always the first to point fingers to make thier job easier.

Nah sorry, that's just stupid to think foul play. But I understand

it just gets to scary for everyone with no one to blame.

But it is exactly what it is. Get over it. It's getting very annoying.

If it is annoying then you should take a break. My comments do not come from fear as you have tried to state twice that somehow i am afraid of the unknown. I have not once stated my thoughts of the level of expierence or ability of the police. That was you infering that i did. What i have seen in my own life and in recent cases is that there are always other factors that come into play such as budget and other factors. From a investigators standpoint the lack of facts fitting together is enough in itself to warrent a criminal investagation. What i have found in my life is that where there is smoke there is fire. People just do not die on their own. Your desire to label this as a mystery is a mystery in itself while at the same time claiming that the thought foul play is involved is stupid.

First of all if I directed any remarks to you personally
I apologize. My point was only to make it clear that it seems
stupid ( a word I rarely use on ATS ) to me that amatuers would
fly in the face of journeymen in any profession. Pro = professional
= profess = professor = teacher, in my mind. Because I can tell you,
first hand, if it were not for the professioanals of the trades I
myself have mastered in construction. I'd still be trying to figure
out the first one I learned. And if I say something is stupid, you
know that isn't calling anyone stupid, right?

Also the only way I can explain people resisting the obvious, is fear.

devils tower was named by settlers who misinterpreted the native american name of "bad god tower"

Huh??

How is "Devil's Tower" a misinterpretation of "Bad God Tower"? Sounds right on to me....isn't the devil supposed to be an evil deity; i.e., a bad god...?

sorry, exhausted last night. meant interpreted.

...I'd probably bet with you.
I can simply find no rational reason for 'where' the body was found.
That is a fairly intense grade.

And nor can I. No matter how we look at it, there is absolutely NO REASON WHATSOEVER for his body to be there. He would not climb that mountain, if he was in his right mind, without heading back to camp for his shoes and gear. Similarly, if indeed Byars killed him, would he really have dragged the corpse up there? Day or night? Or would he have just dumped it somewhere easier or more hidden? Maybe left it where predators could get at it? I cannot see anyone carrying the murdered corpse of their best friend 1200 feet up a steep incline.

I have to consider that you're lumping any consideration of the possibility that the story we're told Byars relayed isn't as believable as you have steadfastly held from early-on

There's a point I don't think we've caught on to very well, if at all. And your wording there instantly made me sit up and think about it.
The story we're told Byars relayed... We've been busy wondering if he lied to the police or to the fishermen who have vanished, when in fact we should have first asked, "Okay. What did he tell the police? And can we find inconsistencies?" Interesting thought...

Excellent post, Tsurugi. I hadn't wanted to point that out, but I'm glad someone did. And I'd like to just take a second to thank everyone involved in what has been one of the most interesting, yet saddening, topics I've taken part of in my time at ATS. I think we've all discussed reasonably, and with no purpose other than trying to figure out the why and the how. When we have those, we can find the what and determine how we deal with it.

And here's more on the story that was running concurrent to Mikes.

Also another
from colorado who went missing just before Mike.

A couple of links to outside sources regarding other stories of 'hikers' gone missing...to include one about the lady/writer in Washington State, and a couple that went missing in a park in Arizona (one body was found, the other has not been found...and the search has been called off).
Don't know what kind of 'issues' might be in question. Guess we'll see.

Ah. I'd heard about the writer, but not the couple. Can't understand why there'd be a copyright claim about news though. Isn't the news pretty much supposed to be shared?

Or am I still living in my idealistic world, where information flows freely?

Well we have to understand that ATS may not have
a large law firm to represent them if they get sued for
something. Not like the world wide news papers or
Reuters or the Associated press does. So I'm sure they
know what's up. And we just have to roll with it.

proof reading is my friend

Of course I understand we all have to bow to the almighty copyright laws (hallowed be their lawyers), but if you just posted news...what's the issue?

Sure, linking to a particular site may be a no-no, but they'd surely just delete the link. Not the news. News isn't copyrighted.

Yet.

Yep, your second link is to one of the sites specifically mentioned in the Wiki article that I listed above. You just tripped the automated “don't link to this site” message. The first link should work fine if you edit or re-post it.
