My point is 26% of people on here trolled (at least from the US), or at least a very large percentage of that number did, and therefore you have an inflated number voting for the hilarious "I didn't know" category.

What inflated number? The extraordinairy thing here is that 26% of the Americans didn't know about it opposed to 1-2% of people from other countries. No one was arguing that the actual number of Americans that voted for it was higher. For you to even think that is idiotic.

See? This is how stupid you are. I said nothing of the sort. If anything, I was trying to explain percentages to someone who not only apparently couldn't grasp the concept, but also had no point to go along with it. You somehow implied in an earlier post that I mustn't understand percentages because,...well I have no idea why you would have thought that actually. I assumed you thought that the number of people who voted for the "I didn't know" category was somehow different than the % of people who voted for it, and then proceeded to explain why it wasn't, and whatever point you were trying to make was moot.

"extraordinairy" isn't a word btw. That's what spell check is for. Hint: all the red underlined words are misspelled.
Just a heads up.

And even then, for your argument to work, you would still have to explain why the percentage of people from other countries who voted for it, is extremely low.

I tried to explain that earlier, if you had been actually reading my posts, by figuring people outside the US didn't have the same humor as we do. Different cultures etc.

Bottom line, anyone to frequents this site, should have known about it. It's almost impossible not to. The thread was so large on the subject, they actually had to create a whole new one, and I haven't visited that in a while, but I'm sure it has quite a few pages as well. So how come people from other countries, who also visit this site, still have at least a small % select "I've never heard of it"? I live in the US, I don't even get TV because we canceled our service a few years ago, and I still knew all about it.

Like I said, if I would have taken the poll, I would have selected an answer in jest, so I can only assume other people had a similar idea. Also, like I said, the point of trolling is for you NOT to get it. That's what makes it so funny, at least to the people who know trolling is afoot.

It's also quite hilarious when people from other countries are so eager to call all us Americans so stupid. The irony, and the obvious inferiority complex you all must have is saddening, and I'll admit, a little funny too. LOL

If they took the poll seriously and don't refer to it as MA370...oops MH370... Then yes. Only time I hear it referred yo as mh370 is here

There is also the possibility that in some of the visits the tracking of IP location is in error or was done by proxy, etc. That would skew the location. Google or some other method/database for location.

That's very possible. I think my IP address currently portrays I'm in France or something, lol. I know it was Germany a few days ago because I was getting ads in German, lol.

So you would think it was a totally different recent crash they were polling about?

Then (if you ignore the proxy hypothesis) the question becomes why would 26% of Americans select that response (either in jest or truth) versus only 2-3% of respondents from other countries. What is it about the American mind that is vastly different from the rest of the world? Are you suggesting only Americans would find it humorous to select that option? Why?

Personally I think proxy servers are the true answer. (American Netflix is just better)

Edited to add: And if proxy servers are at play, then that really only shifts the focus away from the workings of the American mind to the workings of a proxy users mind. Shifty, shifty people those.

I would be pretty disappointed by this if I was an American. Because this is ATS, it's safe to assume that those 26%bhave heard of this, but have chosen to use sarcasm, or what they call humour, to skew the results.

Let's see how funny it would be if the rest of the world said the same about 9/11. That 26% disgust me, these events should not be made light of in such a way.

Not what I said. No one here refers to it as MH370...so...if the question was phrased differently it woukd get different results

Please don't compare 911 to MA...MH370

As an American, I feel appalled by this result. Even if we were to give half to the result of proxy servers, that still leaves a whopping 13% that claim to have never heard of the missing plane. Those being ATS members to boot.

I still can't wrap my head around these results...

Tell that to the major news agency claiming the plane has been sucked up by a black hole and posting polls asking people if they think aliens are to blame. Those two options are out there even by the standards of this site.

So if u asked this question and used the plane that was short of the runway in SF...you'd get the same results... See how I don't mention the flight number

I have no idea. Like I said though, different cultures think different ways. All I can tell you is, like I've said about 5 times now, in the sheer stupidity of the poll, I would have selected something I did not actually believe, for hilarity. I can only assume other people, who grew up in the same country as I, would think of something similar.

That's all I got. I don't have all of the answers, and until people who come forward and say why they selected such answer, we won't know for sure. Until then, I'm sticking with trolling. There's no other conceivable answer besides, like you said, proxy, but I'm American and my proxy usually has me in some European country, so my troll answer would have came up in "rest of world" category.

Bottom line is, there's still no reason 26% of the people didn't know about the crash.

What's at work here are people who are locked in into their own beliefs and conspiracies, who prefer fringe and doomsday websites about the latest doom porn, "chemtrails", "false flags" and whatnot....while not having an interest in or a knowledge even about ACTUAL happenings in real life. Those people are far, far from reality.

This is the reason they don't know what MH370 means even with it on the news for two months straight.

It's IGNORANCE in its purest form.

I voted countless times trying to log in [ woops ] the poll kept coming up with no way to get it away on my laptop until i went full screen i wonder what % of people did the same of the 750 that voted to poop on that survey .

I would not read 2 much into it

Also, I never once heard anyone else say anything about the huge amount of people thinking it was taken by a government agency, or aliens, etc, and that's not only from the US, but it seems equally elsewhere as well.

Are they not stupid/funny answers either? Why is that not an issue?

It just reinforces what most of the international members already know about many of the American members on this site.

Seriously dude ... you are entitled to your anti-American bigotry but it's rather obvious that people trolled the poll. It's impossible for 1/3 of them to be on the internet and not have heard of the plane. You WANT this poll to be correct. Common sense says ... the poll results aren't possible.

3000 something people are a rather (statistical) significant number. That 1/3 of those people "trolled" is extremely unlikely.

You somehow implied in an earlier post that I mustn't understand percentages because,

Because you started defending a post that clearly displayed a logical error based on the disregard for the concept of percentages, after I pointed it out.

And you said this,

He's suggesting that the Americans who took the poll, didn't take the poll seriously, and picked a retarded answer on purpose for whatever reason. There are a lot of trolls, believe it or not. This site, with some of the posts I've seen over the years, has got to have a fairly high percentage of them.

Oh, and btw, yes, 4chan could easily get 750 people to troll together, and this site has some of the most insane members, posting some of the most unbelievable nonsense, it literally HAS to be trolling.

So you are saying that 26% of Americans participants are trolls, all 750 of them.

"extraordinairy" isn't a word btw. That's what spell check is for. Hint: all the red underlined words are misspelled. Just a heads up.

I would say it is a word. It's just spelled wrong. How many foreign languages can you speak and type?

I tried to explain that earlier, if you had been actually reading my posts, by figuring people outside the US didn't have the same humor as we do. Different cultures etc.

I don't call that an argument. It's a cop out.

Even then, the point still remains that one out of 4 must've trolled the poll then. That would say something about the culture of a part of the American membership.

It's also quite hilarious when people from other countries are so eager to call all us Americans so stupid. The irony, and the obvious inferiority complex you all must have is saddening, and I'll admit, a little funny too. LOL

I'm not, and I didn't. There is obviously 74% of American participants that I can't pass judgement on over this, and even the 26% percent are excused it's just when people start making the most ridiculous excuses they are asking for it.
