@ falloutsover : I agree. Russia could have handled this much better. Nato or oil or watever . Now backing down will be a huge ego loss so I don't think putin is gonna do that . When leaders start to think that way everything goes to hell

Same # happened when NATO bombed Serbia in 1999 because of Kosovo, ignoring the UN resolution.
Now they can bite their ass off.

If this is accurate, look for April 15th to be a very pivotal day. Not simply because it's a Blood Moon, but due to other more influential planetary movements.

So China did not vote against. Excellent!

Also, the fact that they didn't vote for it shows they aren't picking sides.

As I said UNSC is a failure in these kind of conflicts.

Yes it could of been handled better. If this was solely a peace keeping mission then nato an organization that Russia is a strong member of should be providing the peace keeping force. Instead we see Russian troops badged and Un badged in the Ukraine this is simply put an act of war and an active invasion. Russia is trying to strong arm the Ukraine at this point into giving up its sovereign land and mutch to puttin's displeasure they are standing up to him and many people and nations across the globe are taking notice. What will ultimately come of this is speculation and guess work at this point in time . Though if I had to guess at a minimum war between Russia and Ukraine and at most a conventional world war could break out.

With that being said I do not think that a major world power would opt to use nuclear weapons as this would most likely end very poorly for both sides. What does worry me are some of the smaller more radical country's with something to prove, or a long standing grudge ( isreal, iran, Pakistan and do on and so forth) those are the nation's that concern me when it comes to thermo nuclear war.

Latest news confirms the Russian occupation of parts of Kherson state, north of Crimea. Previous news of Ukrainian army pushing them back turned out to be false.

Actually China did pick sides and Putin knows it China always sides with Russia. But abstaining they showed they're not happy with Russian actions. It is actually a major step and the only reason it was done put china on the spot and see if they were for the Russian occupation. Because everyone knew Russia would Veto it. It also allows the matter to be brought up for vote by the UNGA who can indeed override a veto with 2/3rds vote if they chose to.This resolution was used to block the US veto on renewal of the Peace-keeping operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina for example.

Interesting turn of events fellow members!

Huge Russian protests in Moscow rallying against intervention in Crimea.

BBC

news.bbcimg.co.uk...

Tens of thousands have joined a rally in the Russian capital Moscow to oppose its intervention in Ukraine, a day before Crimeans vote on whether to secede and join Russia. Holding Russian and Ukrainian flags, they shouted: "The occupation of Crimea is Russia's disgrace." A smaller pro-Moscow rally was being held elsewhere. Moscow supports the vote, which Ukraine and the West have dismissed as illegal. Kiev says Russian "provocateurs" are behind clashes in eastern Ukraine.

Not really surprised , there are many in Moscow which supports Putin but many don't , pussy riots case in point. Its really no different than the massive anti war rallies which took place in US before Iraq and Syria ... But I doubt either govt. really care

Actually two of the members were there once again calling for Putin to step down. They were originally arrested for accusing him of election fraud.Looks like they will be going back to jail here real soon lucky for them Putin has other things to deal with right now.

It was the largest anti-government demonstration since 2012. Demonstrators waved Russian and Ukrainian flags, while opposition activists — including two members of the Pussy Riot punk band — shouted "Say no to war!" and "Putin, go away!" from the stage.

Protesters also held up banners that read: "For your freedom and for ours!" One demonstrator held up a plate of salo — cured pork fat that is a staple of Ukrainian cuisine and adored by many Russians — along with a poster that read: "Make salo, not war!"

And the other news Chanel says that not only is the Crimea asking for Russian protection but that a large amount of people in the Ukraine are also asking Russia to come to their aid.

The BBC has been caught out peddling propaganda time and time again so I think I will listen to the news station that backs up what they are saying with live news footage from the ground and not from some studio that is controlled by No10

Have they banned news where you are, have you not heard the recording of the EU minister being told that the self elected Ukraine government were shooting their own side so that the finger could be pointed at Russia and the USA had an excuse to come in and what about the pro-russian protectors all over the Ukraine.

Trouble with BBC news is that facts often get in the way

Since you love the BBC so much than what about this one for what it's worth

BBC "Ukraine crisis: Pro-Russia protests take place"

Sorry but the people in the Crimea did not ask the USA for approval before they went to vote, odd as it may seem they didn't think they need to ask.
