I still think the level of volcanic activity tells us something about upcoming seismic intensity. Maybe I'm just stuck on this due to the 2008-10 swarm at yellowstone and then the 2011 spike in quake intensity, but if I look at your other spike in 2004 this was preceded by a swarm at Mt. Ontake in Japan in 2002/03. There was a big swarm at yellowstone in 1985 so I don't know about overall energy in the couple of years after this but I sense there is something to it. I definitely don't think it is as connected as I make it seem but these systems are sensitive so there must be something hidden within the signatures that will show why some high energy years are preceded by these things while others may not be. Maybe it lies within the duration and intensity of the swarms. Maybe something less obvious.

Looks like a worst case scenario quake to me at first.

On another thread they just said no tsunami damage is expected.

That's from the tsunami report, link is included in that thread to have a look yourselves. That indeed seems very minor looking at the magnitude and depth, so I'm hoping there's someone in here who knows their stuff.

Could this be a foreshock or most likely just a single quake or is there any way to tell?

I guess just a quake with a normal aftershock pattern. Only one 4 pointer so far being reported.

It certainly will have rattled pool 4 however

I'm surprised these New Mexico quakes aren't getting their own thread. Very strange - no known fracking or history of quakes.

There just was another 3.0 in Arizona.
What I find weird, looking at 30 days on USGS,
is that they seem to have started with the 5.2 on June 29th,
they are showing 17 quakes since that one,
10 in the last week alone, but none smaller than 2.8?

Also, all but one at exactly the same depth,
unless those are just arbitrary depths,
but after two weeks, none have been adjusted?

Maybe there is an obstructed lava stream/flow three miles under???

From that article too:

"Hundreds of smaller magnitude aftershocks – less than ~ M3.0 –
have occurred since the onset of activity, and most went largely unfelt."

Hmmm...
I wonder why they aren't showing on any lists so far???
