You know OP, I find it unfortunate that you typed up this thread in order to shine some light on a subject seldom talked about. That is the rejection of success and conservative thinking in the black community as a "white" thing, only to have the topic turned into an accusatory racial sling fest.

Actually the cops and judge were idiots and didn't read me my rights so I skipped court and that was the last I heard. I'm a boss like that. Other than that I haven't been arrested but I have been racially profiled by police and others. Do you not know what I mean when I say I speak generally? That means personal story's don't matter.
edit on 15-7-2013 by asher because: (no reason given)

You say it doesn't matter, but it does. Unless you're speaking from experience, everyone's just going to label you as a wannabe victim. I have no doubt that profiling goes on, but I want to know how many false charges are actually made from it. It doesn't sound like you were charged with anything.

Nah. I'm not racist but white people are annoying when it comes to discussing race. White Americans lynched raped and killed black people because of there skin color but they think that racism is worse now? White Americans have never truly experienced racism. They have never lived their lives in fear because of their skin color. And white people are some of the most racist people in the world. Now after 400 years of blacks as slaves they want to play the victim and say "we are all one"

Off base in so many ways....He was proven "not guilty" and you still say he profiled and shot because of the thug being black...If someone was beating my head against concrete, trying to smother me and threatening to kill me every step of the way, I don't care what color you are....if I have a gun....I AM GOING TO SHOOT TO KILL!!

but the thing is even if you aren't "charged" you must still deal with court and court fees + inconvenience taking off work is you have a job and after all is said and done you develop a distrust for the police..

Under what circumstances were you having this conversation with this officer anyway? Did he profile you and take you in?

You are generalizing a whole race. that is racist, even if the target is white people.

It really dosent matter what kind of person he was. He was doing nothing wrong and was killed for no reason. By your logic it's okay to gun down any black teen who has used or experimented with drugs.

I never said it wasn't wrong that he was killed. Because it was wrong, I feel as though GZ should do some time for what he did. ~ I'm more logical than you think, or you care to think.

Neither of us were involved in that. In fact, nobody alive today was involved in that. Time to put it to rest!

I think the OP’s story CLEARLY contradicts what you said. She had no problem getting along just fine with people of all races. As a matter of fact, neither have I. It’s only a certain segment of the population conditioned to dwell on stuff that happened before their lifetime.

This is the land of opportunity. There are no more barriers to your success in America except the self-imposed barriers you chose to believe in.

And that story wasn't nessecary because it was SPECIFC and I am speaking GENERALLY. Google "speaking generally"

I was sitting aside my building with a young kid from the neighborhood who was dribbling a basket ball..i was approached by three MoCo officers who stated they had been called out for CDS use in the area. There was no drugs of any sort on my person or in in the air. I asked him why he didnt check the group of Spanish men across the street he stated that he always checks the "hoodlums first"...

no i wasnt taken in....that time

You don't have to be black to distrust the police. I know of a small community that happens to have a Harrah's Casino in it that uses everything you can think of to rake in the dough from the people who visit it and bring in money through the community court system.

What you mentioned above happens to everyone at some time or another.

I see a lot of parallels in your post to my experience. I am a typical WASP. Happy to be so. I grew up on an area shielded from much diversity. In my town they brought in 1 black family with a school aged child so we could say we were a diverse school. ( I am not sure if that's true about the bringing the family in, but it sure seemed that way)

Either way, a black person was just someone who looked a bit different as far as I was concerned for quite a while. As I got older, I was able to see the snide racists comments by others and was able to understand how much of an issue racism really was.

I also was able to be exposed to the stereo-typical black group on a few occasions and was told by my parents that this was not the way everyone was, so don't judge based on that. (great advice I wish more would follow)

Now, it's years later and my oldest daughter decided she wants to marry a black man. Everyone loves him and he is a super guy. But, he explains his childhood to me and I am amazed. He was taught that white people were not to be trusted and they were all out to get you. It wasn't until he made friends with a white kid that he realize that wasn't the case for everyone. Now he is exceptionally smart and driven, so that may be a factor, but none the less, he can still be black, yet get along with and trust people of other races.

I guess I just wanted to say, I completely understand your point, I agree fully, and I wish everyone would realize that yes, stereotypes exist for a reason, but that doesn't justify painting everyone the same. They aren't. We are all different and we are all the same.

By your logic I can play the race card and demand sympathy because I'm Czech. My ancestors were raped and tortured too. My ancestors were also made into slaves. I'm not bitching about it.

What the OP has described in her opening post is a problem with the current culture. Can anyone agree with me on that?

If you don't consider yourself a victim, your "general" speaking isn't proving anything.

I want to hear some real cases of abuse, otherwise, I'm going to chalk it up as just another emotional opinion with nothing to back it up.

Awwwwww Buttercookie, I have loved you since the day we met on here!!!

You shine a light on a subject that is easily turned into hatred.

We have no idea what happened and why a life was taken. I can't judge the matter, frankly none of us have the right.

Your family will either accept your loving light or they wont. That breaks my heart, really. For your dad to say such a thing to you must hurt you more ways than one. (((((HUGS)))))

I was showing property to a lady from Angola yesterday. She was rocking the fro and I tell ya... I was jealous of the beauty she possessed with it as I could never sport the fro (im a whitey).

We are not our bodies.... one day people will get it. One day.

Love to you my sister!!! xoxox

You really think blacks can just "get over" slavery? Thats the only history we have. Whites made sure of that when they didn't allow slaves to practice there culture and sold family's apart. How bout you forget about the American revolution and civil war? Telling blacks they should just forget and assimilate into America is there way of trying to erase the history of what happened. America was built on slavery and genocide at the hands of white people and now they want everyone to just forget and be best friends? Wouldn't that be nice huh? Forget about black history and only study American history. So America can cover up its genocide and slavery.
