As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

As a bloody skirmish between police and opposition activists in central Moscow was drawing to a close on Sunday a small boy on a tiny bicycle pedaled through the crowd and approached a line of hulking riot police. He sat there for a moment, balancing on his training wheels, staring at the menacing troops who were decked out in blue camouflage uniforms and full riot gear, nightsticks at the ready.

This is the perfect example of what fear has done to the people. The child knows not fear for the authority the riot police hold.

Kids are absolutely awesome.

It's a kid on a bike. Is he "facing down" the troops? Doubt it.

Way to read too much into a photo.

why must you crush what people see in a photo. If it gives them hope for the future then let them have it. though I personally believe the kid is only annoyed with their interruption of his ride, there is no reason to tell someone that their opinion is wrong. I truely believe that if someone sees hope in something, you should not crush it. Let the picture of the kid bowing down to them in six years change his mind.

It is a kid on a bike, what is he doing? He is facing the troops in front of him. Don't you have some else to be?

You shouldn't judge other peoples bravery to be lacking the same as yours.

Children have an innocence that adults lose upon indoctrination.
Either through school, media or propaganda...somewhere we lose it.

That picture clearly shows curiousity and courage that most people lack.

He is not scared.
He should not be scared.

Neither should we.

All hail the delusion of the masses.

Just because it's a kid you assume he's brave.

Pathetic.

The tail wags the dog.

I honestly dont know if this actually upsets me. Where the heck is the mother and why did she let him stroll up to them like that. I can see the meaning behind this picture but my thing is, if SHTF, that kid will be smack in the middle of some really serious confrontation and possible fatal injuries

All hail those pesky trolls.
Keep pestering those poster who genuinely admire courage.

Children show courage where most show fear.

Ever see it?
From your response...doubtful.

On one hand, this picture says to me, 'Hope for our future generations.' That child represents the next generation of citizens (in whatever country) standing up and saying enough is enough...

On the other hand, WHERE THE HELL IS HIS MOTHER!? lol

P r o p a g a n d a .

Incidentally, you have no idea what I've stared down in my career.

So you know where you can put it.

In any photo, a person has to imagine the time frame when the image was captured.
I would assume the mother is somewhere behind the camera, out of range...
And I bet she is screaming and yelling for her son.
Maybe she has been captured.

Now, on the other hand, this child could be an orphan.

So either way, why question the integrity of his mom (if she exists)?

We all know the child is playing the largest role in this photo.
Also, we all are trying to put 1000 words to it.

I think it is up to the viewer and his/her imagination to decide how to describe it.

Exactly what is it propaganda for?
Also, you have no idea what I've stared down in my life.
But I am not questioning your career or life.
So don't be so quick on the defense...

That is not even the point here.

I got it!

In Mother Russia, police don't stop children.
Children stop police.

Perhaps what's more relevant is not why the toddler did what he did, but what may very well
be going on in the minds of the cops. Here's to hoping they felt pretty ridiculous....

Like he knew what he was doing. he was just riding about seeing what all the fuss about.
Are you guys saying this CHILD has already formed his political conscious? That he meant to "stare down" the cops?
Meh
EDIT: Without anything else attached to it, it is a pretty cool pic to look at and ponder.
