Don't their iPads have a dictionary they can look Capitalism up on?

Private listserv: Protesters sought to sell Occupy Wall Street merchandise for profit

A cache of private emails among Occupy Wall Street protesters shows they planned to sell protest-themed merchandise in order to raise money to support their anti-capitalist cause.

An online merchandise marketer named Kristen Harrington emailed left-wing activist Justin Wedes on September 25 indicating she was helping put together a merchandising effort to raise money for the protesters. “We spoke on the phone this evening regarding fundraising,” Harrington wrote to Wedes. “This is a link to my store(just set up today) at cafepress.com.” Wedes is a leader of the “OurSchoolsNYC” movement.

Does this mean they're going to be protesting themselves to pay their own college costs? Hmmm.

As with any movement, people will always try and capitalise, but that is not the main focus for 99.9% of the OWS campaingers.

They could support the cause by killing a few billionaires. Would you prefer that instead? Nothing wrong with selling stuff to support a good cause. The problem comes when someone makes or loses more money than the average American can make in a lifetime, in 15 minutes.

A fundraiser to keep on living while protesting is not a bad idea. As long as they share the money and/or resources gained I dont see the problem. Its still socialism. So at least that's consistent.

as I understand it, the food bills for these things are quite pricey. and on alot of the local sites they still say they are happy to accept non-monetary donations as well. I don't see what the problem here is..

It is only fair, since any smart capitalist living anywhere near left wing pretenders of intellectualism is selling copies of Chairman Mao's Little Red Book, along with Marx and Engle's Communist Manifesto, and T-Shirts with pictures of Che Gueverra on them, and even selling those Che military beret's and Chinese military caps with the red star on them, and of course, Fairey Obama Hope posters that they can hang on their exposed brick walls of their Brownstone duplexes. There's big money in anti-capitalism, baby! Just ask any corporatist.

Corporatism is NOT Capitalism.

I was under the impression the Occupy movement is directing it energy in opposing Corporations.

Corporations do NOT engage in Capitalism.

You may have been taught in school, from the TV and by your own Government that Corporations are Capitalism at work. Nothing could be farther from the truth.

Corporatism = Fascism

They are not anti-capitalists

They are anti- government and corporations doing illegal things and stealing money from the american citizens and putting us in more and more debt and starting a war every few years while everything in the US goes to #. While using capitalism as an excuse to say well this is how capitalism works... no its not how capitalism works, capitalism is not insider trading, back room deals, giving contracts to friends and family, gambling away pensions, ponzi schemes, ect

Maybe you should read the definition again yourself and if you can say that we live in a capitalist society that is being run correctly and fairly then you are just another sheep.

The system has been manipulated to keep rich people rich and poor people poor yes there are the few in there that happen to make it from poor to rich but often times its not by hard work and doing the right thing as it should be.

Greed and corruption are rewarded with status and $$$ that is not the america my grandfather and great grandfather fought for.

I agree. Corporations in this country have gotten too much power, and are dictating the way this country operates. That wasn't the intention our founding fathers had.

Thanks for the thread, Us occupiers now in 80 country's, believe in fair capitalism, Not privilege for the Banks and unemployment for the rest of us... even today the banks confiscated another billion or so dollars from us Tax payers just to keep there doors open,, It was not one bailout, its continues about everyday..

Me and you have to operate under different rules then the Banks do,,

The Banks don't have to Mark there Assets to market like me and you do.
The Banks can borrow money from the fed, at about 0 percent, carry that money down the street, and by short term Bonds to make a quick 3 percent profit.. Ya and you know what they use for collateral to borrow money from the Fed,(our Deposits.).. and you know who pays then that profit Me and you.. while using our money to do it..

Any person reading this can be a huge millionaire if we got to operate under the same conditions as the Banks...

Most people that have money in the Bank are in better shape then the banks they put money in... The banks are Zombies.. see seriously that's what were against. But you won't hear that on any news channel...

Yes we love capitalism,

That is a few people and how they feel not how everyone feels, the OWS is full of allot of different people most do not have answers some are misguided and think that ending capitalism is the way to go... capitalism hasn't failed the government has failed to uphold the principals of capitalism and keep corruption out of government and banking.

Saturday, I was viewing the Occupy Protest in the city that I reside and a Young Man was wearing a t-shirt that had “Capitalism does not Equal Democracy.

My first thought was, yes, he was educated in the Public School system in America. Heck, he was wearing a t-shirt declaring that to be so.

Just because many of the Young People are incapable of understanding exactly the correct definitions and are not able to rationally express their disdain for the plight of America today in no way lessens their feelings that the Change that they Hoped for never came. These youth Know the system is rotten to the core and that they have no future. I applauded each and everyone one them, American citizens exercising their inalienable right to assemble and give redress to their Government warms my heart and re-kindles the pride to be American. The Occupy movement has my full support.

Let me offer a warning to each of them that like the beginning of the TEA Party movement, outside forces will attempt to infiltrate and take a leadership role in order to destroy the movement from within.

Really??? Killing anyone has accomplished what exactly? Two World Wars in our recent past.. So killing someone rectifies the problem? Keep speaking like that and your audience will be gone in a heartbeat.. So if your killing scenario happens... then what? Do we sing around the campfire?

And Civil Rights movements leaders resorted to law breaking in order to get the laws changed.

So what?

Rosa Parks sat in the front of the bus and got arrested.

Nothing wrong with using the broken system against it self.

Anyway, I have a headache

I need an aspirin and a nap.

Nice thread and nice discussion.

Lol-ing at the "World Workers Party" with their posters that say "a job is a right!"

The only thing that was every enticing about any of the anarchy rhetoric was the idea of rebelling against the idea of the need for a "job."

Hell, they sound like my Dad when I was a teenager, harping on how I needed a good job.

I just wanted to rock out on my fender.
