BS.

People are not going to be compensated for living carbon free, they will still have to pay taxes. What about people who live in a close-to carbon neutral household...THEY STILL HAVE TO PAY CARBON TAX. The power companies STILL HAVE PUT RATES UP.

It is BS.

Just like the Flood Levy Tax. Well that one is even more so.

The more carbon-neutral your household is the less carbon tax you will pay...

The New Zealanders have an ETS in place now for a few years, and waiting for Australia's ETS to be finally implemented

Remember the Carbon Tax is set up for a few years, then ETS will come into place after 2015

Also while the Carbon price is set at $22/23 a tonne, the costing (families compensation) was actually done at $21/tonne

We've also heard reports coming in that Electricity prices are set to increase over 40% over the next few years, will that $10/week cover those price hikes? not to mention price hikes which will be additionally slapped on water, fuel, food, medicine, clothing etc?

The Carbon Tax/tonne is designed to increase each year... Something Gillard doesnt actually say out loud too much, she has NOT said whether families compensation will also increase each year... She has not said if the Carbon Tax will be dissolved once ETS comes in either

The Carbon Tax Revenue is NOT going to Developing Countries....a good chunk of that revenue will come in forms of compensation for families and corporations... I didnt know until some one shared information that 2% will go to the UN , the rest will be distributed to families (cough cough) and corporations (little is said about small businesses), renewables, investments towards green tech energy and the government kitty

The problem I have, can I trust this current government to administer all this wisely and not wastefully...
NO I CAN NOT TRUST THEM TO DO THE RIGHT THING YESTERDAY, TODAY OR TOMORROW

About this Carbon tax thing, you might want to consider the bigger issue. Its not about Australians. Its not about jobs. Its not about re-election. Its realy about the NWO. Yes, you read that right.

This tax, if/when enforced, will be a presedan of a sovereign nation paying a tax to an international body!

Think about that for a while. I'll wait.

It means your governemnt will give loads of your money to an international body, much like the IMF, for no f***n reason at all. They tried to do it with Norway recently, and they failed bigtime, got busted by the media. This whole scandal was probably among the causes of the recent Norway massacre. Read more about that here:
DEADLINE LIVE EXCLUSIVE: Who Are The Bankers That Benefit From The Norway Terror Attacks?

The presedan of a global tax on the shoulders of corrupt US politicians and liars like Al Gore, will be a giant leap for the NWO, or the "New World Company". You cant have a private global superstate that enslaves people if you dont tax them globaly.

Dont confuse being an eco-minded person, protecting nature and going sustainable with paying an illegal tax to filthy rich, moraly corupt, evil bastards that caused the whole mess and are making it worse every day. There will be no benefit to earth, no benefit to animals, no benefit to anyone except the evil people enslaving and destroying us for a long time now.

You Aussies are on the front lines of our struggle.
I expect you to not back up an inch and to give em hell!
No sacrifice is wasted in this fight.

It's the 'filthy rich, moraly corupt, evil bastards' who will have to pay the tax, and they will still have to compete, (against preferred green techs), to get our money. If they put prices up they will lose out to more ecologically minded technologies...

You have enough solar panels on your roof and wind turbine to power up your house and have a nice cheque coming in from the power company each quarter eh?

You only buy organic food (no processed or packaged foods), organic toilteries and cleaning aid (use alot of palm oil) and organic handsewn clothing and footwear, glasses, caps etc, you dont buy wine, spirits or beer, all home grown eh?

You drive an electric or hybrid car eh?

You dont need to update or purchase any new furniture or electronic gagets or appliances anytime too soon eh, all 5 to 6 star energy efficient products eh?

Your computer, mobile phone, console games etc is made from 100% recyclables eh? No need to update them any time too soon eh?

Yes I agree...
but thats still more expensive to purchase then less expensive from a consumer point of view right now and probably for a few more years... especially for families and pensioners who fall in the low income catergory, especially families who have mortgages in the middle class catergory, watching their every penny

No, I am a carer for the aged and those with disabilities. I have a little old Mazda, I live on very little and consume very little. I live in a Housing Trust house with a big garden which I use as best I can to feed myself and others. I live as green as I can and would really like it if my grandchildren can breath sweet-smelling and wholesome air.

Hi all, I'm yet another longtime lurker who just has to comment on this huge issue affecting our wonderful country. A country that now seems to be going to hell in a handbasket at a greater rates of knots every day.

I am 100% against the Carbon tax as is everyone I know. Not just some of the people I know, everyone I know. The way the whole affair is being handled by our PM is shabby and disrespectful, blatantly disregarding the views of the majority of angry Australians and pushing her agenda on regardless. Never mind the plain hypocrisy of allowing unchecked coal seam gas mining across the country, while making us feel guilty for the small amount of electricity I almost have to sell my kidney to pay for anyway.

Between the Carbon Tax rip off Juliaaa is forcing on us, to the bully tactics of coal seam gas contractors potentially poisoning ground water and ruining valuable farmland, to the huge tracts of farmland being sold off to China without the government having a clue as to who owns what, to the waves of economics refugees who are jumping on the Aussies-are-suckers handout bandwagon every week via Christmas Island, quite frankly I struggle to recognise this once great country.

Where are the good politicians? The ones who want what's best for Australia and Australians and who won't apologise for saying no to selling off our land or won't be dazzled by huge mining profits at the cost of safe driking water and stand by and let our farmers be bullied by greedy mining giants.

At least the average Aussie still knows a fake when they see one and let's hope after the next election someone can bring some faith back to this great country before it's too late. I'd vote to Alexander Downer if he came back, he was a real statesman and an absolute class act.

Breathe. I'll get off my soapbox now.

And finally, to those who think the Carbon tax protesters look like an uneducated bunch, well mate, I love those people because they have the faith of their convictions and the common sense to clearly see the path this dangerous tax is taking us down, and I salute them.

Yet you arent carbon neutral at all, far from it,

It COSTS money to be as carbon neutral as possible especially on your wages, its an impossible task, something the government will NOT compensate you for or even HELP you get there, solar panel rebate is finished! they wont help you change your appliances for better energy efficiency nor will they help you get yourself into an electric or hybrid car... I understand everything you said about living as carbon neutral as possible for the sake of the children, the children, the children!!! but in reality you arent close to it at all, most of us arent unless we get LOANS (CREDIT) which we will take forever to pay off, funny how the government WILL be compensating big industries with HUGE amounts of $$$$$, yet from what Im reading more and more Australian families are struggling just to get through each week with the cost of living rising, wages, pensions not matching cost of living index

Carbon tax isnt about sweet smelling or wholesome air, we actually have regulators in place for that already in this country (did they stop issuing fines?) they do TEST pollution levels DAILY in our cities and towns... Carbon Tax is more or less a small step away from Trading Carbon Units Globally.... we've gone from:- the net boom to crash, to the housing bubble/credit crisis which hasnt crashed completely yet...the green economy global trade is being set up to be the next boom, which will eventually crash

Now Im all for investment into Green Technologies, jobs creation, green energy all those things, Im just not sold on this Carbon Tax completely, definitely not sold on Cap and Trade/ETS, I dont see the PEOPLE benefiting from that at all, more or less our wealth swindled yet again sent to the top end of town

nonsense poopy pants!!

in terms of price increases... the CT will amount to bugger all.

Tasmanian power company Aurora energy, days after the carbon tax was announced, informed the Tasmanian people that they would be increasing power costs in July 2012 by 10% to offset the tax. (This is on top if a 10% increase sometime thus year)
and this is from a HYDRO POWER COMPANY......a green company to begin with. If you don't think companies wont exploit this tax as an excuse to ramp up service costs than you are too optimistic as to the nature of the big businesses.
This will hit Aussies hard and bring us into line with other western cultures failing economies. Its economies like Australia's, which survived the Global Financial Crisis relatively well, that is keeping the worlds economy from completely collapsing.......hence why they want to ruin the Aussie economy with thus tax......to bring the whole house of cards down.

Why are people so afraid of the carbon tax?
It is based on a lie to begin with. It's real purpose is to give governments another source of revenue. They "tax companies" but the companies just pass the cost along to the consumers.

Then do not buy their products at their higher prices. Why would you advocate this kind of socialism to benefit corporations? Why would anyone?

What daydream are you living in??
Your house can be as carbon neutral as you can, but as long as you consume electricity, gas or water, buy groceries, or any consumer goods, you will be indirectly paying a carbon tax.
Businesses are not going to absorb the cost and let it lessen their profits. They are going to pass the cost onto the consumer. The government has said that 9 out of 10 households will be better of, what a load of crap. They only say this so the gullible think that financially they will be better of.
Bottom line, people will lose jobs, not everyone will as some posters seem to believe, and our cost of living will increase even more then what it currently is. Can't people see this, or are they really that blinded by the government propaganda .

The truck convoy is now arriving in Canberra.
Should be entertaining.

I live in Canberra and I hear it is a flop.

Someone mentioned they drove down Northbourne Avenue and was the quietest drive through there in nine years, and said there should be more truck envoys to help lower peak hour traffic.

Sounds like it. Although the demonstrators state they tried to work in with Police to minimize the impact on local traffic.

Either way, 'Knob' Brown / Greens is stating only a small minority of "whingers" turned up...

I hate that guy.

Doesn't do the cause any good to have morons like Alan Jones coming out with complete BS like this:

"Broadcaster Alan Jones said the smaller-than-expected crowd was because "thousands" of people had been blocked from attending the rally and that "hundreds" of trucks in the convoy had been stopped at the border as they tried to enter Canberra from New South Wales."
