Feeling responsible for former colonial incursions. Maybe! Although I am sure at this time that is less so on the agenda.

ALTHOUGH France does have a very large Muslim, North African population that has been vocal and in cases violent.

Maybe I am cynical, but I just can;t believe all this is down to purely benevolent actions with a solely humanitarian goals. I just feel that would be far too simplistic.

France isn't unfriendly with muslim countries. I believe, also, that they prefer sunni politics. Maybe a coup coming with a France friendly sunni regime?

Edited to add: The shiite countries (like Iran for example) would prefer a caliphate of course. So maybe this action in Libya will help to prevent the rebuilding of that.

Sometimes, however, things are just as "Simplistic" as they seem. Sorry, but I just cannot see a conspiracy in this. This is simply what happens when one part of the people wants one thing, and the other part wants another, and they refuse to sit down and work it all through, and instead start throwing mud on each other until the point that the grown-ups have to step in.

Well you certainly could be right. however if you haven't already, check the EU statement I posted earlier. The frist paragraph there says it all for me. They want regime change.

I am still interested how this is going to affect the situations with Iran and Israel.

I think I've gone beyond that. I've become desensitized by the ever increasing UN/NATO onslaught. I'm also disgusted in being part of it indirectly!

It seems those subs were in place fairly quickly, and being put to use. The POTUS was very clear in saying our own ground troops wouldn't be used but we'd still use "other means". Chances are they will be taking out AA weapons around Tripoli.
