My father was stationed at WPAFB from 82-85 and we got to see a few interesting things, the space shuttle on a piggyback ride back to FL, the SR71,
some of what "I think" was part of the Star Wars Program.... light beams being shot at tanks parked on an old closed down part of the run way.
Dad was in pest control so he got to go to a few places most done get to go. One building on the main part of the base he went to to spray for bugs,
he was escorted through the whole building with a armed guard ringing a bell, people closing their office doors or covering up what was on their desks
as the bell got closer.
I cant confirm it to be fact but I was told some of the hangers we went and looked at through chainlink barb wire topped fences held the many things
from Americas past, George Washingtons uniform to the Roswell UFO.
They have a great Air & Space museum but other then that, it was the worst base station we ever had.
