Saudi couple "hammer 24 nails" into Sri Lankan maid

www.reuters.com

(Reuters) - A Saudi couple tortured their Sri Lankan maid after she complained of a too heavy workload by hammering 24 nails into her hands, legs and forehead, officials said on Thursday.

Nearly 2 million Sri Lankans sought employment overseas last year and around 1.4 million, mostly maids, were employed in the Middle East. Many have complained of physical abuse or harassment.

X-rays showed one- to two-inch nails in her hands and legs, with one over her eyes, officials said.

Here is another lovely story underscoring the beauty of the Saudi culture. Reports of abusive behavior targeted against immigrants in Saudi Arabia have been out there for decades. Most of these are domestics and essentially indentured slaves to wealthy Saudi families. They have no rights, no easy way to get home and no access to civil services.

The Saudi's don't consider them to be more than domesticated animals, Muslim or not. That these injuries were not discovered while in Saudi Arabia just highlights the fact that there is simply no concern for these people.

Local law enforcement get involved? No - why should they, nailing a domestic is no different than kicking a dog in Saudi Arabia.

It is about time that the Western societies got serious about the Saudis. It is a well known fact that they are the largest financial sponsors of terrorism in the world. Everyone knows that, yet we pound the table over Iran, Yemen and Syria, but never against the Saudis.

How about we get a leader who outlines the global abuses of the Saudi's in and outside of their own society and use that as a lever to get a reasonable energy policy in the country?

"we need to get our act together on energy so that we are not giving these scumbags any more of our money" is a winning statement for anyone running for office.

I guess these folks could have been doing a bit of training to get ready to work on the Ground Zero Mosque, boning up on their trade skills when they decided to hammer their maid.

Oh, I forgot - Saudi's don't do manual labor

If it makes you feel any better, my grandfather worked over there in the oil fields during the 60's and fed quite a few of them pork without their knowledge.

He said they loved it.

You're quoting Reuters, the KING of the mainstream news line on a website called "above top secret".. a conspiracy website at that... and I don't mean that in a mean way towards you...

In a time of basically ZERO support for the wars and the gubment pushing for MORE wars, this story from the government owned Reuters fits in nicely and they just throw it out there.. I don't believe this story for a second... Just more of the MSM sucking in the sheeple to get them to support more killing... I mean, think of the ridiculous extremeness of this story and intuitively think if it's actually REAL or not... or is it simply doing its purpose by making you read and think of how much you should hate those people that you no nothing about simply because of.... a story

These inbreds think they can do what they want and get away with it. Human Rights don't apply to anyone not related to the house of Saud and why not. The country is fully supported by the U.S and most western governments. Black gold rules all, huh.
Wouldn't surprise me that if they did it in another country, they'd still get away with it citing diplomatic immunity after all a Saudi prince battered his servant to death in a top hotel in London, a few months back and still got away with it.
Anyways I hope their not related to the house of Saud and will be punished for what they did.

It is interesting to see comments on news sites. Comments are the real conspiracy here. One interested in conspiracies should go read them, and see how people think that these evil acts are results of Islam and that's what US is fighting against in ME. If the victim was a man, this would never hit the news. It's as if things like these never happen on our homelands.

this happen everywhere around the world. whenever a culture or race feel superior to another, they commit inhumane act to those they feel are lesser being. it was normal thousand of years ago and it persist til today. having a history dating back thousand of years does not justify its existence today. in my opinion, the husband and wife need to send the maid back to her country with tens of million for their ruthless act.

I think we (the U.S.) need to either be the entire worlds police or stay out of everyone else's business. We can't go gung ho in criticizing 1 country's behavior then ignore the same or even worse somewhere else that happens to be an "ally".
I realize this is a naive response but this kind of stuff pisses me off.

Indeed, the story does sound somewhat extreme.

However, I live in that part of the world and abuse of domestic staff is not uncommon. In the country where I live and work as an expat, it is even reported in the local press.

we should invade saudi arabia and take there oil....no more worries about fuel or having to buy it...
we could seize all there asset's and pay off all our country's bills overnight... i should also add that i think the saudi family thought of her more of a slave than a maid....

We need to just bomb the hell out of the whole dang middle east and call it a day already. Nothing but religious extremists harming and murdering people for the dumbest crap I've ever heard of. It's sickening. Sometimes to save people you give them a helping hand and lift them up when they fall down. Sometimes to help people you have to kill people that are irrational and fanatical. Every day its something new out of the wtf papers with some one from the middle east torturing someone else because they drew a cartoon of a prophet, or nailing nails through someone because they weren't an efficent "maid" it's disgusting and im getting sick of hearing of this retarded and ass-backwards way of living.

For the people whom want to try to be illogical and argue about killing people being no better than the torturers themselves I say this:

There is a HUUUUUUGE difference between someone torturing someone else by nailing nails through their body for not being able to carry so much, and someone who blows up a country because its full of religious extremists that don't do anything but kill people. Sometimes you have to kill a few people to save the rest.

Everything you said applies to you. Don't point fingers at others when you have your own problems, once you tackle your own problems, then go around and feel free to point fingers, even if it is your middle finger.

It is America who is creating disgusting movies of torture like hostel where rich people pay huge sums of money to do things like this to poor, or "far far away" people where the authorities wouldn't give much of a damn about, because they are in it./

Money makes the world go round, there are 6 billion human beings, and some are them are truly sick bastards, that includes Americans, and they are rich sick bastards, and then there are poor sick bastards who wouldn't mind taking the sum of that money and keeping it quiet.

Once again, fix your own problems then point fingers..

News stories exaggerate all the time. For example...

A girl was doing a project for history class in school. She decided to do stuff about cellphones. She went to get some stuff on Google. When she went there was a link. She clicked the link and it said she needed to download a piece of software on the computer.(While a blue page was the background for the entire screen.)

Unknowingly thinking it was just a piece helping the cellphone website she DID download it.

On that very moment the download completed showing PORN into ALL COMPUTERS THAT WERE ONLINE IN THE ENTIRE DISTRICT AT THE TIME.(VIDEO PORN)

The media caught wind of this and made it out as the girl was INTENTIONALLY DOWNLOADING THE PORN. THUS INFLAMING THE PARENTS.

AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED TO THE GIRL!!!

SHE WAS EXPELLED!!!!!!!!!!!

Just how good do you think the media is now?

In all reality Saudi Arabia did not outlaw slavery until 1972.

So any Saudi older that the age of 38 was actually born into a society that still permitted slavery.

It took about a 100 years after we outlawed slavery here in America for blacks in the south to finally stop being lynched and tarred and feathered.

Of course I am sure all those good ole southern boys were actually secretly Islamists and practicing Sharia Law

Saudi Arabia was about a 100 years behind us, and we were about a 100 years behind England in abolishing slavery.

I am sure up to that point though that all Americans were secretly Islamists practicing sharia law.

Of course there are still people in America that keep slaves and abuse them, the Mainstream News media tells us this when ever some man or woman and sometimes couples are charged with the crime.

Of course even though they are white, live in very expensive neighborhoods, in very big homes, and were born Christians they of course are secretly Muslims too practicing Sharia Law.

In fact according to one dedicated group of posters (Forum Gang) here on ATS only about 6 people in the world (them) are not secretly Muslim and practicing Sharia Law.

All the real problems facing our nation and people get worked up about this nonsense.

I wish we were lucky enough to just be nailed, instead of as screwed as we are!

I agree with Saudi Arabia being a real concern, and they are friends with UK royalty, bloodlines, and US and CIA, as well. They are also connected to the S group. Think what likes a desert and the entire ancient history, ufology thing, including what the Mayans depicted that tied into Egypt. The S group is what this is all about and their friends are that as well. What is really running earth, behind the scenes.

War is never an answer to this however. Many countries have many things that need to change, this whole planet is negative run, wars and starvation are rampant. What do we do about everything, not just one thing, this whole worlds state of affairs? And peacefully as well?

This is just more propaganda to keep Americans hating brown people.

Everybody be good sheeple and get REALLY angry. Talk about it with
your friends. Say things like..."We should just bomb the entire area
and be done with it," OR "Let's send them all to Allah so they can be
happy in heaven and git their virgins."

Then in the coming years get ready to be angry again for the next war.
Maybe this next time we'll get to be angry about sweatshops
with child-slave labor, or maybe if we're lucky it'll be about rape
and torture and babies sold on the black market or something
really provocative.

Facetiousness aside...I feel for this woman and all the others in this
world who are suffering at the hand of ignorance and inhumanity,
but I'm not going to be led around by the bit. I will not wear blinders...
...and I will only drink when I want too

A vulnerable man was kept as a slave and brutally tortured before being decapitated and dumped in a lake, a British court heard Tuesday.

James Watt, 27, three members of his family, and two women are accused of killing Michael Gilbert, 26, whose headless corpse was discovered in a lagoon last May.

I know everyone just wants another reason to hate Muslims, but until we stop slavery and torture in our own countries, we have no moral high ground from which to judge others.
