The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

As an avid fisherman and soon to be Alaska resident, I have to wonder just how that state will react to any further meddling in their fishing by the feds. Between the number of subsistance fishermen and the fact that fishing is one of the primary components of their tourism indistry, I would think any attempt by Washington to take real control over the fishing in Alaskan waters would be met with an almost seccessionist response from many in the state. It isn't just a matter of meddling with peoples' passtimes and hobbies up here, it's meddling in their abillity to feed their family and in their livelihoods.

(and the "you'll get my Zebco when you pry it from my cold, dead hands" may have been a tongue in cheek line, but I've witnessed fishermen flat out brawl with each other over prime spots on rivers here in Washington during the salmon runs. I've seen one fillet knife fight and have seen a couple of people go back to their truck to grab a firearm which always causes quite a mass exodus away from the river bank by the remaining fishermen. These are the types of legislations and government actions which boil over and become large scale incidents between civillians and law enforcement agents.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Yeah, that is part of my charm. To be humorous yet completely serious at the same time. Some can see it and find in thought-provokingly funny (much in the vein of Gallagher without the watermelons), others just think I am a odd person.

This a very serious issue, and like one poster said, there will comparisons to the Census worker found hung with 'Fed' carved on his chest in some areas if they want to push this.

This is a little off topic...and I'm not really sure...but by the sounds of what people have said...you can't even plant seeds and grow your own food now in America...is that true?

You and diplomat, donttreadonme.. should cry less.

Do you think politicians would just say "oh, hey we've been doing you wrong.. we should totally give our power up to you citizens!" or "hey, here are all your rights. have 'em back we were joking!"

Change might be bloody, learn to deal with it. Grow a pair.

In some areas you cannot.

There are also food regulations which essentially forbid it. You had to get permits and be heavily regulated, which would cost a lot and bankrupt some. There were threads talking about it. I've lost a lot of my bookmarks though, so I dunno where the threads are now.

What I'm reading is just laughable you guys.
Do you actually think fishing and hunting would/could ever become outlawed in our country? If you do, you're nuts.

And why are people even saying this in the first place?

I'm not saying we should all be a bunch of liberal, tree-hugging forest wookies. But how come anytime someone tries to do something in the name of environmental protection everyone screams about being stripped of civil liberties? Whatever these idiots decide, it's not going to keep people from fishing where they want to fish anyway. The task force doesn't exist to pander to private industry anyway. The recommendations are up to them. OF COARSE companies like Shimano are going to be upset.

Shimano:
"Listen to my recommendations. Let the people fish where they want. Besides, if you shut down fishing in these areas we'll lose alot of money. After all, it is all about the moolah!. But we won't just come out and say that. That would look bad, right?"

Task Force:

Yeah, sorry but it's true. Collecting rainwater is illegal in many places.

But, you have to consider that when these things are needed, no one in your country is going to hold these laws together.

Who exactly is going to enforce these laws 24/7?

I admit it is just more evidence of federal government controlling you, but that's in the existing society.
They are unenforceable laws designed to scare you, make you feel trapped and controlled, and bring in revenue through fines and licenses.

These are the only rules.....

Rule #1: What a man can do.
Rule #2: What a man can't do.

(Captain Jack Sparrow)

So.... can you fish, or can't you fish?

Can you grow a garden, or can't you grow a garden?
Can you breathe the air, or can't you breathe the air?

There are no rules, save those determined by natural ability.

They will enforce it like they enforce every other 'law'.

FEAR

[Fiction]
Tonight's News at Six -
A Colorado couple has been sentenced to 4 years in Federal prison for collecting rainwater illegally.

Federal agents raid more than a dozen illegal rainwater collection sites in a sting dubbed Operation Waterspout.
[/Fiction]

The average person sees headlines like this hammered into his/her head for awhile and they will be scared stiff.

This is INSANE! Why do I feel PETA is behind this?? I'm so sick of them saying what we can and can't do when it comes to the animals of this planet.

Not saying we should slaughter them all but dang, come on.

So, basically they are going to be outlawing fishing. So, in America you will be unable to hunt, fish, catch rain water, or grow a garden without breaking the law.

What is left?

The number in nations
The god in their hearts
The justice in swine
The devil in God

VOTE

This long hand that breaks our backs
Still casting shadows on all that we see
Unjustified...mercy killing is just a feeling
To keep our numbers from being free

(Chorus)
Prison for praise is not worth thinking
Sin is still in and our ballots are shrinking
So unleash the dogs - the only solution
Forgive and forget, # no
I'm talking about a revolution

The prophet man's got a needle in his hand
Draws his dreams from your soul - bleeding
minds into sand
The year of the fear has arrived decades too late
And our right to stand and fight is now
solely sealed in fate

(Repeat first chorus)

One last chance mission with a vision
'cos our lives are just cards i their stack
Our time is short but theirs is shorter
How much longer can they hold us back

(Chorus)
Prison for praise - the obvious answer
Once had power mad - living disaster
Don't # with me 'cos I'm on a freedom train
That bears no name - this time
I'm voting with a bullet

This view they once knew made our nooses too tight
This justice in swine
This devil in god

So God bless my soul - I've got total control
And the crosshairs lined up dead in my sight

I'm voting with a bullet

I fish saltwater a lot. Unbelievable if this happens. Between my area starting up saltwater recreational licenses and now this, I'll probably hardly fish anymore....and I catch and release too.

I don't think many people bothered to read the OPTF Proposal.

www.google.com...

www.uscg.mil...

No where does it say it is going to restrict fishing. What a bunch of crybabies.

This is just more of the president attempting to make the country a socialist one. The more they do things like this, the closer they get.

This is just one more small piece of freedom the fed is taking from the American people while they think no one is watching. They think if they take a little here and a little there, just small seemingly insignificant rights that no one will notice or even care.
Well wake up America because there’s not much time left before we roll out of bed one day and find are selves living in the USSRA (soviet socialist republic of America). We are all born with cretin unalienable rights bestowed upon us by are creator. That’s right I said it Creator, that’s GOD. Among them are life, liberty, the pursuit of happiness and FISHING!
If you want to see a real revolution just let them try to take that away.
